Amiens is a city and commune in northern France, 120 km north of Paris and 100 km south-west of Lille. It is the capital of the Somme department in Hauts-de-France. The city had a population of 136,105 according to the 2006 census. It has one of the biggest university hospitals in France with a capacity of 1,200 beds. Amiens Cathedral, the tallest of the large, classic, Gothic churches of the 13th century and the largest in France of its kind, is a World Heritage Site.   • 1. Musee de Picardie Amiens
    The Musée de Picardie is the main museum of Amiens and Picardy, in France. It is located at 48, rue de la République. Its collections stretch from prehistory to the 19th century and form one of the largest regional museums in France. The museum was founded as the musée Napoléon in 1802 . However, the museum building, is later, being purpose-built as a regional museum between 1855 and 1867. The Second Empire style building was designed by architects Henri Parent and Arthur-Stanislas Diet. It was built thanks to action by the Société des Antiquaires de Picardie, keen to give the city somewhere to house the collections the society had gathered over decades.
