Andøy is the northernmost municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Vesterålen archipelago. The main island in the municipality is Andøya. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Andenes. Other villages in the municipality include Bjørnskinn, Bleik, Dverberg, Fiskenes, Fornes, Nordmela, Risøyhamn, Skarstein, Å, Åknes, and Åse. Hurtigruten is a Norwegian cruise, ferry and cargo operator. The company was founded in 1893 to operate voyages on Norway's western and northern coast between Bergen and Kirkenes. Hurtigruten ships sail almost the entire length of the country, crossing the arctic circle and completing the round-trip journey in 11 days. The trip has been described as the World's Most Beautiful Sea Voyage, with stops in such places as Bergen, the Geiranger fjord, and the Lofoten Islands. The company has nearly 2% of the worldwide cruise market. More recently, Hurtigruten has begun operating cruises in other areas such as Greenland, Canada, South America, Iceland, Svalbard, and Antarctica.

Hofsøy is furthest south of Senja. It is one of several small villages on the peninsula Stonglandet. Stonglandet is located in Tranøy municipality in Troms and is connected to the rest of the island through the Stonglandseidet. Other settlements located on Stonglandet are Valvåg, Lekangsund and Stangnes located on the eastern and south side, while Hofsøy is in the west.

On Hofsøya there are several memory areas with burial mounds and house lifts. In the 1970s, a long house from the Iron Age was discovered during an excavation.
