Carpegna is a comune in the Province of Pesaro e Urbino in the Italian region Marche, located about 100 kilometres west of Ancona and about 50 kilometres southwest of Pesaro. Carpegna borders the following municipalities: Belforte all'Isauro, Borgo Pace, Frontino, Mercatello sul Metauro, Montecopiolo, Pennabilli, Piandimeleto, Pietrarubbia, Sant'Angelo in Vado, Sestino. The Monte Carpegna nearby is a ski resort. The communal territory is included in the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Regional Park.

    The Fortress of San Leo is a castle on the border of the Romagna and Marche; the castle is best known as the site where Count Cagliostro died. It was one of the palaces owned by Federico da Montefeltro and his wife Battista Sforza and was a fortified, palatial retreat. It is now a museum.
