Cupramontana is a comune in the Province of Ancona in the Italian region Marche, located about 35 kilometres southwest of Ancona. Cupramontana borders the following municipalities: Apiro, Maiolati Spontini, Mergo, Monte Roberto, Rosora, San Paolo di Jesi, Serra San Quirico, Staffolo. It takes its name from Cupra, a fertility goddess of the pre-Roman population of the Piceni.

    The Fortress of San Leo is a castle on the border of the Romagna and Marche; the castle is best known as the site where Count Cagliostro died. It was one of the palaces owned by Federico da Montefeltro and his wife Battista Sforza and was a fortified, palatial retreat. It is now a museum.
