Dublin is small - so small that within 30 minutes you could be galavanting around one of its many coastal villages for the morning and still be back in town for lunch, ready to go exploring the city once more.
One morning, we surprised some tourists and locals with a live video set-up on one of the busiest streets in Dublin and invited them for a seafood snack by the pier in Dalkey - one of the many amazing towns dotted along Dublin's coastline.

Residing in a wide bay, Dublin lies between Howth in the north and the headland of Dalkey to the south. The River Liffey, which flows into the harbor, slices the city in two. Cascading waterfalls, acres of rolling green pastures, the sparkling blue waters of the epic coastline… with such natural show-stoppers, it’s no surprise that more and more film and TV productions are choosing Ireland as their star location! Georgia Hirst (Torvi) from Vikings found it hard not to fall in love with her home away from home, so we got her to tell us where and what she loves to do in Ireland!
Fast Facts:
Take any monastic site from Vikings period and a round tower connects them all. It’s widely agreed that monks used these as bell towers, but during raids the monks would hide both themselves and their valuable chalices, crosses and gold in the tower’s highest point. The Vikings counteracted this tactic by setting fire to the towers and either smoking the monks out, or burning them to death. You can see these towers at Devenish Island, Glendalough and Clonmacnoise.
Far from being just rampaging warriors, the Vikings also brought civilisation to modern Ireland. It seems that the Norsemen were settlers by inclination. The 830s saw their first attacks on Ireland, and by 835 they were attacking the monastery at Clonmacnoise. A mere six years late in 841, the Vikings pulled their longboats out of Lough Neagh, signalling their decision to stay.
Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford, was founded and shaped by Viking settlers. At the heart of Waterford town you’ll find the Viking Triangle, named after those who first settled there – take a walk around this historic centre and learn more about the Vikings in the three world class museums here.
These Nordic warriors ruled Dublin City with an iron fist for almost three centuries before their demise at the hands of legendary High King of Ireland, Brian Boru, in the Battle of Clontarf. A walk around the city’s buildings, such as Christ Church Cathedral, gives evidence of their stronghold on Dublin. The bones of Brian Boru lie in the wall of the Church of Ireland cathedral in Armagh.
Place names around Ireland echo the island’s Viking roots – Wexford, Waterford, Strangford, and Carlingford, for example, are all derive from ‘fjord’, while names with ‘ey’ is a sign of Viking roots also, as ‘ey’ means surrounded by water, such as Dalkey or Ireland’s Eye.

Dublin is both the largest city in the Republic of Ireland and its capital.
It is a historical and contemporary center for arts, education, administration, economy and industry.
Dublin is known as the “Fair City” the nickname comes from the traditional Irish song.
Dublin has many landmarks dating back hundreds of years. One of the oldest is Dublin Castle, the former seat of British rule in Ireland.
Dublin Castle is the heart of this historic town. Originally built in the year 1200 as a defensive fortification, it later evolved into a royal residence.
On the grounds of the castle there is the Coach House, a gallery and exhibition space, and the Chester Beatty Library, a museum that contains a number of priceless objects.
Adjacent to the Dublin Castle, once known as the Royal Exchange, the City Hall, was the previous center of local administration.
Today’s local government debates in the relatively new and controversial City Council offices.
On the other side of the river is Four Courts, a grand, domed building that houses the main courts of Ireland.
Situated between the bus station and the river the Custom House is another impressive government building.
Dublin is also home to the Irish Houses of Parliament, which stand in front of the Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university.
In the center of town is one of Dublin’s newest monuments, 120 meters tall, the Spire, is officially titled the Monument of Light.
Close to the Spire there are many historical landmarks, such as one of Ireland’s most iconic building, the General Post Office.
Dublin also has many sacred temples, such as St Patrick’s Cathedral. It is the National Cathedral and the largest church in the country.
Not far away is Christ Church Cathedral, the city’s oldest building, and standing next to it is the Dublinia, a museum focusing on the Viking and Medieval history of the city.
In the vicinity of the Garden of Remembrance, which is a memorial dedicated to the memory of “all those who gave their lives in the cause of Irish Freedom”, are the Abbey Presbyterian Church and, a gallery established to promote Irish literature, the Writers Museum.
Dublin is the city with many green areas. St Stephen's Green is a city center public park with the huge lake.
The Merrion Square is a leafy park with floral and heather gardens and notable Oscar Wilde Statue.
There is also the Phoenix Park, the largest enclosed urban park in Europe. Which has a polo field, the Dublin Zoo and the Wellington Monument.
Pubs are the soul of social life in Ireland where songs are sung and stories are told. Around Temple Bar Street there are many places where you can find a perfect pint.
But the best beer you can get is in one of the most famous breweries in the world, the Guinness Storehouse.
You can also take a tour of the Old Jameson Distillery and learn about golden Irish Whiskey.
