Darjeeling District is the northernmost district of the state of West Bengal in eastern India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The district is famous for its hill stations and Darjeeling tea. Darjeeling is the district headquarters. Kurseong, Siliguri and Mirik, three other major towns in the district, are the subdivisional headquarters of the district.     Senchal lake, located 10 km to the south-east of Darjeeling, is the main reservoir of potable water for the town of Darjeeling, India. The lake is located at an altitude of 8,160 ft atop a hill. The hill also has one of the highest golf courses in the world. Senchal is a favourite picnic spot. A tourist lodge at Senchal provides accommodation to tourists. This lake is a part of the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary.

    Mirik Lake, or Sumendu Lake, is a lake in Mirik, Darjeeling district, West Bengal, India. It is 1.25 km long. The lake has 80 ft. long arch footbridge across the lake called the Indreni Pull.
