Destelbergen is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Destelbergen proper and Heusden and was created on January 1, 1977, by the fusion of these two municipalities. Its western border touches the municipality of Ghent and Melle and is formed by an ancient silted up branch of the river Scheldt. On January 1, 2011, Destelbergen had a total population of 17,636. The total area is 26.56 km² which gives a population density of 664 inhabitants per km². Attractions are the many residential castles, a Gaulish farmhouse, and the Damvallei nature reserve.

The Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 in Zonnebeke is a Belgian museum devoted to the 1917 Battle of Passchendaele , where in 1917 in only 100 days, almost 500,000 men were killed for only eight kilometers gain of ground. The museum is housed in the historic château grounds of Zonnebeke and focuses on the material aspects of World War I.

2. Herge Museum Louvain La Neuve
The Musée Hergé, or Hergé Museum, is a museum in Belgium dedicated to the life and work of the Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi , who wrote under the pen name Hergé, creator of the series of comic albums, The Adventures of Tintin. The museum is located in the town of Louvain-la-Neuve in Wallonia to the south of Brussels at the address, Rue Labrador 26, Tintin's first home in the books. It was designed by the French architect Christian de Portzamparc, with interiors designed by cartoonist Joost Swarte. The first stone was laid May 2007 during the centenary of Hergé's birth and it opened in June 2009. It consists of three floors with a total of nine exhibition rooms, and a café, museum shop and mini cinema.

Citadelpark in Gent : de verdwenen Citadel door Catherine Boone

Tussen 1822 en 1831 werd op de plaats van het huidige Citadelpark een citadel gebouwd. Dit bouwwerk werd door de Nederlandse Luitenant-kolonel der genie Carel Frederik Gey Pittius ontworpen. Kenmerkend aan dit moderne bolwerk is de vijfhoekige structuur die een totale oppervlakte van 43 hectare omhelste, wat toentertijd enorm groot was. Strategisch werd het gebouw gepositioneerd waar eerder het Fort Monterey uit 1671 stond. De opgerichte citadel fungeerde als verdedingsbastion tegen de Fransen.

Nadat in 1831 de laatste steen werd gelegd, verloor het imposante bouwwerk zijn functie. Het werd afgebroken. De ingangspoort van de citadel, gebouwd in 1826, is op heden bewaard gebleven.

Begin jaren '70 van de 19de eeuw werd het gelijknamige Citadelpark aangelegd. Een park waar je niet zomaar voorbijloopt. Naast deze bijzondere ingangspoort maakt iedere voorbijganger kennis met oogstrelende natuur en mysterieuze grotten.
