A Look At Property Options In Barcelona's Dreta de l'Eixample
Bearing in mind that penthouses and pisos nobles in a prime location with views of one of Gaudí's masterpieces can fetch as much as €5 million, I thought I'd do a little experiment.
Just to give you an idea, I've taken €1 million - not a euro more, not a euro less - and had a look at the September 2013 Eixample Dreta Property Portfolio and three fantastic apartments are currently available.
Apartment on Rambla de Catalunya
The first of our selection of €1 million Dreta de l'Eixample properties is this lovely 179 m2 attic flat set on central Rambla de Catalunya, which is much nicer than neighbouring Passeig de Gràcia by the way.
Although the apartment is quite traditionally furnished, you can see that the 50m2 living-dining room offers an incredible sense of space.
Furthermore, the apartment also has 2 double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom and a service room with WC as well as two more fully-equipped bathrooms.
The floors are parquet and although the property may require a little refurbishment, air conditioning and central heating are already installed.
However, from a foreign buyers' point of view, this apartments' best feature is undoubtedly the fantastic 40 m2 terrace.
Not only does it offer incredible views of Rambla de Catalunya and the Barcelona city skyline but it is also perfect for sunbathing and large enough for entertaining friends.
Apartment On Carrer Pau Claris
Located on the corner of Pau Claris and Provença just a few metres from the top of Passeig de Gràcia, this magnificent 200 m2 apartment is housed in a listed building and in terms of interior space is definitely my favourite of these Eixample Dreta properties.
It has large windows which give a sense of light and space and offers two double bedrooms, one single, two bathrooms and a dressing room.
The very generous living area, includes a large living-dining room, and as it is unfurnished the possibilities are enormous.
The kitchen and bathroom have been tastefully modernised and this recently refurbished property offers typical high-ceilinged Eixample rooms with Modernista details and parket and marble floors.
I also particularly like the regal entrance to the building, which shows a real touch of class.
Apartment on Consell de Cent-Bruc
The third property in the Eixample Dreta I have chosen is located on the corner of Consell de Cent and Carrer Bruc is in the heart of the Quadrat d'Or.
This regal 167 m2 apartment is traditionally furnished and decorated and definitely has a classic Eixample feel.
Apart from three bedrooms one with an impressive en-suite bathroom and another separate bathroom, the apartment also offers kitchen and dining areas in soft wooden tones and onarmented ceilings.
Speaking personally, I would consider creating larger spaces by removing some of the non-supporting walls but such modifications could be made as and when the need arises.
A particularly desirable feature, though, is the view of the typical Eixample interior patio-garden and the price tag also includes a parking space located nearby, which is a massive plus.

Eixample is in the centre of Barcelona. Here there is everything: Markets, shops, pharmacies, bars, restaurants, and clubs... All within a short walk. Although the best thing – according to its residents – is availabilty of public transport connecting it to the rest of the city.
This video shows you everything you can see in the Eixample Dret. Like the Arc de Triomf, Rambla de Catalunya, and the famous Passeig de Gracia where there are two famous Gaudi buildings: Casa Milà and Casa Batlló.
However, they also tell us it's a quiet neighborhood. It still has life and community, where neighbours know each other in an atmosphere far from the city's waves of mass tourism.
In the video we explain the history of the Eixample district. This place is more than just a neighborhood, it is the economic centre of Barcelona. Its unique structure was designed by Ildefonso Cerda, who is considered one of the founders of modern urbanism. He devised a grid structure of buildings well oriented to the sun, designed to facilitate traffic that would not appear until a few decades later.
The neighbours tell us about the history and curiosities that can be found in the streets. They also give us tips on where to eat or go out because this neighborhood has a terrific offering for both tourists and locals.

Train from Sitges
This is a view from the window on the train to Sitges from the stop near IBSTE. There are so many tunnels that my camera kept refocusing on the girls that were inside the train ... kind of a fun effect. That's the Mediterranean out the window!
