Fort de huy Mars 2018
Le Fort de Huy est une forteresse, construite en 1818, accrochée au bord de la Meuse et qui domine la ville de Huy, dans la province de Liège en Belgique. ll se trouve à l'emplacement de l'ancien Tchestia, une des quatre merveilles de la ville de Huy.
En 1939, des soldats allemands sont internés après avoir franchi la frontière belge. Le 10 mai 1940, ces soldats passent du régime d'internés à celui de prisonniers de guerre3. Le fort est attaqué par les Allemands peu de temps après afin de libérer les prisonniers. Cependant, ces derniers ont déjà été transférés ailleurs. Dès lors, le fort est utilisé par les Allemands comme centre d'internement pour des prisonniers politiques et des otages principalement. Il est sous l'administration de la Wehrmacht et dirigé par le commandant Frimberger4. Plus de 6 500 patriotes dont Guillaume Vermeylen y sont internés. Les motifs des arrestations sont variables : résistance, banditisme, marché noir, réfractaires au travail obligatoire, otages, communisme, grève,...4 On retrouve également différentes nationalités chez les internés. À partir de juillet 1940, des prisonniers anglais, des grévistes français, des russes sont internés à Huy. Environ la moitié des internés sont des otages. Ils encourent le risque d'être exécutés. Mais finalement, aucun d'entre-eux n'est exécuté sur place mais emmenés ailleurs avant leur assassinat. À partir du 22 septembre 1941, le fort de Huy est également utilisé comme camp de transit avant la déportation vers des camps de concentration, principalement Vught et Neuengamme5. À la Libération, le fort est transformé en centre d'internement pour inciviques.

CAMPING IN A BUS: The Pigeon Pack Tours Episode 2
Show troubles and bus troubles, the Pack perseveres with the help of friendly Michigan faces!
EPISODE 3:
In this episode, the pack gets a call from their next show with some bad news. We had a nice show booked in Cincinnati, Ohio, but the venue double booked the night. They also decided all the bands could play if they wanted to, but it would be pay-to-play. Pay to play is never ok. So we wound up not playing the show.
This wound up being a bit of a blessing in disguise, as we had a very pleasant day instead! We set up camp at our campground just outside the city. This was our first campground, and we were rough around the edges getting set up. Caitlin set up her tent in like a minute. Cait and frisco took a bit longer as it had been a while since they used their tent. Eamon and Debbie, with the help of Jessie, took forever. That tent was bought the week before tour, and we didn't know what we were doing. Christian didn't do anything.
While we were setting up camp, we had our first addition to the group, Poppy! Poppy is not a musician, but a great friend and overall an extremely helping hand in all of our day to day endeavors. She was jokingly called the tour mom on many occasions. She flew in to Cincinnati from NYC, because her sister was in town when the pack left and didn't want to miss her.
After welcoming Poppy to the tour, we decided to get started on dinner. Some of the group went out to the store to buy food, while others stayed behind to continue setting up. We had burgers with lentils in them, which you can learn more about in our cookbook:
We attempted to start a fire, and did a very poor job. We weren't fully prepared for everything, but we got by!
A quiet night of camping was relaxing, but we had a show in Detroit, Michigan the next so we had to stay hype! On our drive we passed the Quaker Oat factory and wow did it smell good. I could see it getting annoying after an hour, but for the time being it was enjoyable.
In Detroit we played at an art space called the Trumbullplex. We Elmer up with our friend Carmel Liburdi who helped us book the show. We'd met Carmel, along with the guys in Pancho Villa's Skull, a few months prior while they were on tour in New York. The Loneliers played a show with them, and quickly became friends, so when it came time, Carmel was happy to help us with a show! She played, and as always made us smile with her music and it's beauty. We also played with Matt Wixson's Flying Circus, who were a dang good time. They played on the floor instead of the stage, makin us all look bad with their punk inclusiveness and wonderfulness. Whatever yo!!
Jeff. Jay. Vinny. Grace. These are four people we had never met. However, they asked us if we wanted to crash at their place for the night out of the kindness of their hearts. We were floored by how sweet the offer was! We went to their place, and ate our signature sidewalk chili (another recipe you can check out in our cookbook!) and chilled pretty hard.
The environment was super lax and fun, but we had an issue looming over our heads. Our next stop was in Escanaba, Michigan. Many people would hear such a name and say where? The truth remained, however: Escanaba was in the Upper Peninsula. This meant an approximately 28 year drive from where we were, and we had to get there in a day. Many people we met were suggesting we leave that night to get a head start. Others were suggesting to just skip it all together, because what's in The Upper Peninsula anyway? We were determined to go, so we made the tough decision to leave our new charitable friends and start on the road. Instead of sleeping in a house, we slept at a truck stop.
Seeing as we were in a parking lot right off the highway, getting back on the road was simple enough. However, just 20 minutes into the drive we started to smell... something. Poppy said maple syrup. Frisco said coolant. Neither would be a good thing to smell on the bus (who spilled syrup?) so we pulled over to check it out. As it turned out, our coolant was leaking out like a waterfall. We were in the middle of nowhere Michigan with a bus that wasn't gonna drive very far at all, much less the next 6 hours to our destination. What were we to do??? Find out next time ;)
The Pigeon Pack was formed by a group of 10 best friends who make up four different bands. We're embarking on a tour across the U.S. in a bus to spread our music.

To start our street food tour, we woke up early in the morning to have an Indian Breakfast, an Indian street food breakfast! We went to a local tea shop to have some chai tea and a super delicious potato curry, known as a sabzi, and a flavourful kachori to dip it in! Watching the Indian restaurants and street food stalls like this in action, preparing and cooking the Indian recipes that have been done like this for generations is simply amazing!
After tasting that saffron and sugar packed chai, along with the amazing potato vegetarian curry, we kept exploring the back streets of Kolkata to try and eat the best street foods of Kolkata.
Here, you can travel to India just for the food, and that's exactly what we did!
After the tea, we went to find some classic Bengali street foods on the street corners, and found a super flavourful bhel puri AKA puffed rice with a spicy mango chutney! This was actually very sour and spicy and so delicious!
We then continued traveling in Kolkata's busy and spice scented streets for more delicious foods, and found the amazing hot kathi roll.
This is marinated chicken in a ton of spice and yoghurt, wrapped up in a freshly fried paratha that's covered in a couple eggs, almost like an omelette, a HUGE omelette over top of the paratha! Then the paratha is wrapped up right on the street and you can taste the amazing flavors!
After that, we enjoyed a walk through the busy streets of Kolkata and made our way to deckers lane, the most iconic heritage street food mecca of Kolkata, to try an amazing and spice packed chicken stew. It was quite peppery and delicious!
After a quick walk and one street orange juice later, we arrived at Arsalan biryani rice and curry Indian restaurant to taste the famous mutton biryani and also try the amazing selection of spicy Indian curries. These bengali specialties were simply delicious, a MUST try thing here in Kolkata.
