Taiping has been recognised as among the top three sustainable cities in the world.
Touted as Peninsular Malaysia’s wettest town, Taiping was placed third, behind Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and Vancouver, Canada in the Best of Cities category, which awards cities that show leadership in urban sustainability and in avoiding disruptive over-tourism.
The recognition was given during the 2019 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Awards at the International Tourismus-Börse (ITB) travel trade show in Berlin, Germany on Wednesday (Mar 6).
Taiping Municipal Council president Datuk Abd Rahim Md Ariff received the award.
He said he was happy and proud of Taiping's achievement.
“This is the first time we received a prestigious international award.
“This achievement is due to the hard work of the community and all relevant governmental agencies,” he said.
“The council always work hard to make Taiping a popular tourist destination,” Abd Rahim added.
Also present at the ceremony were Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and state Tourism Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing.
Taiping waslisted as one of the 100 Sustainable Cities by Green Destinations in December last year.
The list, made available at greendestinations.org, s aimed at recognising efforts by authorities in the tourism industry that contribute a sustainable environment.
Green Destinations is a non-profit organisation which focuses on efforts to create sustainable tourism, leading global cooperation between experts, firms and academy institutions in 80 countries.

Belum-Temengor is the largest continuous forest complex in Peninsular Malaysia. Specifically, it is located in the Malaysian state of Perak (Hulu Perak) and crosses into Southern Thailand. Belum-Temenggor is divided into two sections. Belum is located up north right by the Malaysia-Thailand border while Temenggor is south of Belum. The Royal Belum State Park is entirely contained within the forest complex.
Belum-Temenggor is believed to have been in existence for over 130 million years making it one of the world’s oldest rainforests, older than both the Amazon and the Congo.[1] In the heart of the forest lies the manmade lake of Tasik Temenggor, covering 15,200 Hectares which is dotted with hundreds of islands.
The area has been identified as an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) Rank 1 under the Malaysian National Physical Plan and recognized by Birdlife International as an Important Bird Area. The Malaysian federal government has labelled the area as a whole as an essential water catchment area and part of Central Forest Spine and plans to protect the forest under the Malaysian National Forestry Act.
Despite that, between the two, only part of Belum Forest Reserve has been gazetted as a State Park while the rest are production forest open for development. Temenggor in particular is facing considerable deforestation due to logging. Environmental organizations such as Malaysian Nature Society and the World Wildlife Fund have been lobbying both the state and the federal government to gazette the area as a park. The state government of Perak, however, has resisted the effort, citing that logging provides the state with more than RM 30 million in revenue. Nevertheless, the state government gazetted 1,175 square kilometres, part of the Belum forest reserve as state park on May 3, 2007.[2]
There is a plan to convert natural forest to plantation forest along the East-West Highway.
Belum-Temenggor's relatively untouched forest is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including 14 of the world's most threatened mammals including the Malayan tiger, Asiatic elephant, white handed gibbon, Malaysian sunbear and tapir. Other animals include seladang, wild boars, numerous species of deer, pythons and cobras.
Belum Temenggor is home to over 300 avian species. It is the only existing forest where all 10 species of hornbill that inhabit Malaysia are found, namely the white-crowned hornbill, bushy-crested hornbill, wrinkled hornbill, wreathed hornbill, plain-pouched hornbill, black hornbill, Oriental pied hornbill, rhinoceros hornbill, great hornbill and helmeted hornbill.[3] In the forest you can also find 3,000 species of flowering plants, including 3 species of Rafflesia, the world's largest flower.

Kuala Terengganu (Jawi: كوالا ترڠڬانو; colloquially abbreviated as KT) is the largest city as well as the state and royal capital of Terengganu state, Malaysia. On 1 January 2008, Kuala Terengganu was awarded city status. The city has a population of 343,284 and is also the seat of a district of the same name. Kuala Terengganu is located about 500 kilometers northeast of Kuala Lumpur on a promontory surrounded on three sides by the South China Sea. The name means the Terengganu Harbour, referring to the broad expanse of the Terengganu River estuary which empties into the ocean at this point. Kuala Terengganu is also the name of the parliamentary constituency in which the city is situated. The inhabitants of the city speak a distinct Terengganese dialect of Malay.
Places of interest include Chinatown, Pasar Payang (Central Market), the Sultan's Palace, the State Museum, Pulau Duyong and the latest attraction is Masjid Kristal in Pulau Wan Man. Kuala Terengganu also famous for its keropok lekor Losong and traditional dishes nasi dagang.

When in Malaysia, you must sample Roti John, a MALAYSIAN STRET FOOD which is both popular and tasty! We sample Roti John at Roti John Titiwangsa arguably one of the best Roti John stalls in Kuala Lumpur. Roti John is basically an omelette sandwich. A soft baguette or French stick is halved and slapped onto egg which is cooking on the grill which then coats the bread. The eggy bread is then filled with shredded cabbage, mayonnaise, a protein of your choice such as tuna, chicken, and beef, cheese and a range of other condiments. The sandwich is then cut into pieces and topped with fries. SO. GOOD.
How does it get its name? The story goes that in the 1960s an Englishman asked for a burger from a hawker. With no burgers on offer the hawker crafted a sandwich filled with mutton, eggs and onion. All foreigners were referred to as ‘John’ and so he handed the sandwich to ‘John’ saying: Here’s your roti, John” and voila! The Roti John was born.

Kanching Waterfalls in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia - 7 Levels
Kanching Waterfalls in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is 7-level waterfalls near to Kuala Lumpur (about 20 km, 1 hour), Kanching Waterfalls is located in Templer Park area and you can easily go there by bus nr. 43 from the front of Central Market in Kuala Lumpur (Cental Market is near Chinatown and Kota Raya Shopping Mall). Bus cost 2rm (0,50 euro) and bus drives through Batu Caves and it takes about 1 hour going by bus. Bus stops in big highway - but ask bus driver to stop you Kanching Waterfalls, not Templer Park, which is only 1 kilometer from Kanching, but that is not the same place. Even locals call Kanching Waterfalls as Templer Park, but that is not the same 7-level beautiful waterfalls like in Kanching. When bus stops, go or run carefully over this big highway to other side and only walk 100 meters back and you will see the entrance and the gate of Welcome Hutan Lipur Kanching.
Kanching Waterfalls is the most amazing place in Kuala Lumpur. Kanching Waterfalls contains 7 different waterfalls in 7 levels and you can climb all to these. You need to have a good condition and some drinking water is recommend to bring with you. It is also possible swim easily for example in level 3 and level 4. You can do also picnic and in area are also barbeque areas to put fire and heat up the food, but be aware of hungry monkeys. In entrance of Kanching is also small food restaurant to eat rice, burgers and have a cup of coffee. Local Special Burger for 3rm (0,75 euros) is very tasty after trekking and swimming in waterfalls. Entrance cost to Kanching is 3rm (0,75 euros).
Kanching Waterfalls is recommend to all in Kuala Lumpur who wants go the real nature adventure from the city of heavy and noisy traffic. Kanching Waterfalls is very easy and fast to reach.

The Jonker Walk (Malay: Persiaran Jonker, Chinese: 雞場街) is the Chinatown street of Melaka, Malaysia located along Jonker Street (Malay: Jalan Hang Jebat).

During the Dutch Malacca, servants and subordinates of Dutch colonialists used to live at the nearby Heeren Street. However, as the Dutch left, it became noblemen's street. Rich Peranakans started to live and did business within the street area, giving the street a deep-rooted ethnic and cultural flavour.

The Kanching waterfalls near Templer's Park Malaysia
The Templer's Park Forest Reserve is located north of Kuala Lumpur, about 20 minutes away from the city. This beautiful park is a precious repository for flora and fauna, and one of the last green lungs within reach from the city outskirts. Located within the park are some beautiful multi-tiered waterfalls.
