Immerse yourself in the music and culture
On a stroll through the Latin Quarter. Don’t miss the historic King’s Head Pub.
Sit for a while in Eyre Square, walk through the Spanish Arch
A part of the medieval system of walls, or cast a line into the River Corrib,
I’m in the medieval city of Galway
And as you can see, I’m walking down the heart of the centre itself.
There’s pubs, there’s buskers, there’s music everywhere.
There’s someone just setting up here.
It is an amazing place, but as I’m walking around
And showing you some of the things to see,

A city of faith both new and old, Galway has an ages-old medieval past.
The church of St. Nicholas, a saint revered by mariners
Was visited by Christopher Columbus in 1477.
Reflect upon the past, but the city truly lights up
When a favourite rugby team wins big.
So if you couldn’t tell, it’s Sunday and I found the weekend market.
Which takes place throughout in the summer time.
There’s food, there’s art vendors
It is quite the sight and it stretches on for quite a long ways.

Venture into the alien Burren region, a landscape inhabited
By early people for thousands of years.
The Burren in County Clare is an alien-like landscape
Known for its ancient inhabitants who scratched out their existence upon the rocks.
The Neolithic portal tomb at Poulnabrone stitches together a tapestry
Of Ireland’s first farmers, a society with archaic, but telling death rituals.
Upon your visit to medieval Kilfenora, it’s easy to see why
Travelers are enthralled with the religious high crosses.
Gaze at the Doorty Cross and marvel at the 12th century cathedral ruins.
Alright, well it was a long trip by bus
because of course, I can’t apparate like Dumbledore and Harry Potter did.

Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands
Continues to offer visitors a quintessential Irish experience
As soon as the ferry lands at the pier.
Before the adventure begins, travelers should
Explore quaint, picturesque Kilronan town.
For those who want to further connect with this ages-old landscape,
Rent a bicycle from the shop near the ferry dock before
Setting out for the island’s treasured hill fort, Dun Anghosa.
Populated since 3,000 BCE, the Aran Islands are a world of Stone Age forts
Wedge tombs, early Christian religious sites
And a land of storied tradition and immense heritage.
Climb the rocky hill to Dun Aonghosa, a stone fort originally built in 1,100 BCE.
Walk through the gates, and carefully stand, or crawl
To what the ancients saw as the world’s edge.
Perched precariously on this bleak outcropping overlooking the Atlantic Ocean
This must-see hill fort is a reminder of a turbulent past,
But also of a people who built an engineering marvel.

Aillwee Cave - Birds of Prey Show and Inside Aillwee Caves
Aillwee Cave has been a place I have visited since I was a child -
it is really an amazing place. Its part of the Burren in County Clare, Ireland. It tends to be open from 10 AM to 5 or 6.30 depending on the season and the family tickets are a reasonable price. You can take a guided tour that is around 35 minutes - so long enough - deep into the caves to see where bears used to hide from harsh winters.
In recent years they have added the Birds of Prey to the attractions and this is excellent fun - even if no interest in birds - still great to see! So check out our brief 360 video of Aillwee cave and Birds of Prey Ireland - all in the Burren in Co. Clare. Its interesting being in the bear cave - hopefully you will enjoy as much as we did. PS: if driving here - the roads are crazy! :-) real old country roads - so take it slow - Ballycahill and Ballyvaughan are nice places.
A lot of people - especially those coming from abroad - don't even know what does Aillwee means and where did it come from; this name came from an Irish word that means yellow cliff. The system of this cave consists of about one kilometer of passages that lead into the heart of the mountain - that is the reason why I warned those who have never been there to take care of the roads and take it easy.
For every place I visit, I always try to spot out the features in order to help and tell people what they should be searching for and why they should even go and check the place. The features related to Aillwee Cave include the underground river and the waterfall in addition to some large stalactites and stalagmites, which are types of rocks and ceilings that hang from walls and rises from the floor, giving the whole place a different kind of atmosphere.
I have already mentioned above that it has always been one of the places I used to visit long time ago and I always feel excited because of the idea of getting in the place where the bears used to hide in winter. Since this is the cave for bears, the remains of some of them could be still seen and even allusions have been made to it being the last bear den in Ireland.
There are different Caves in Clare and this is considered the oldest one of them and back in the old days it used to contain a large stream but it is now deserted of the stream and is heavily backfilled with glacial infill. This cave is old enough to be now open for the public and for us to experience those shows which are done there for the birds; about one third of the total length of the cave is open to the public - good enough for people to explore the place and discover what it carries.
It used to be all about the cave from the inside and checking those remains of the bears but recently it started to become a place which bird lovers and even those who just love the idea of watching animal shows come to in order to see the Birds of Prey show which is done by the Birds of Prey Centre as well as those hawk walks which are seen there.
At the beginning of the trip, I watched the birds' show with the family - the kids loved it as well - and then we walked inside to see some of the other different animals which happen to be living there in the place just before we got inside the cave itself and listened to what the tour guide was trying to share with us about the place - I really enjoyed being in the place once again after all these years and at the same time witnessing all the additions that have been made to the place.
One of the other things which I want to mention about this place is the location of it - Aillwee Cave is located in the heart of the Burren in County Clare (which is only forty minutes away from both Galway and Shannon); the cave is perched high on its Burren terraced mountain side with the best view over Galway Bay, which is one of the things I love about that place as well.
I believe that this is one of the different places which those who are going to be around this area should visit in order to discover the cave and get the chance to see the show of those birds as well and to see those animals found inside - I believe that animals are always considered the friends of children, they fall in love with them immediately (
After going through this kind of tour inside the cave and getting introduced to the things it carries - most importantly those remains of the bear - the guide will take you back to the outside where you could shop and choose different gifts that will keep reminding you of the place later when it comes to the memories you will be making - you could even take some to your friends if they are not from Ireland and might not be able to come to the place soon.
This was my experience through the place delivered to you here through a 360 degree video in order to give you the real experience of being there and feeling as if you are the one walking through the cave and watching the show.

SET DANCING AT VAUGHAN'S BARN KILFENORA IRELAND
We had been to Vaughan's in Kilfenora for lunch and dinner for many years but had not known about the Ceile-Set dancing till this last trip to Ireland. We spent the night enjoying the music and dance. They have Set Dancing every Thursday night. We were invited by Mary and James McNamara. We have been staying at a house that they rent for the past 6 years. The house is called Doolin Haven and as the name implies, it is located in Doolin, Ireland. If you are interested in peace and relaxation, this is the place for you. The house sits up on a hill overlooking the Cliffs of Moher, the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Isles. Stunning sunsets.... Mary and her daughter are two of the dancers. This event is open to the public and I highly recommend that you put it on your list of things to do in the County Clare area. I think there is a fee charged at the door.
CEILI DANCE
Irish dance is a group of traditional dance forms originating in Ireland which can broadly be divided into social dance and performance dances. Irish social dances can be divided further into céilí and set dancing. Irish set dances are quadrilles, danced by 4 couples arranged in a square, while céilí dances are danced by varied formations (ceili) of couples of 2 to 16 people. In addition to their formation, there are significant stylistic differences between these two forms of social dance. Irish social dance is a living tradition, and variations in particular dances are found across the Irish dance community; in some places, dances are deliberately modified and new dances are choreographed.Set dancing, sometimes called country sets, are a popular form of folk dancing in Ireland.
SET DANCE
Set dances are based on quadrilles. The latter were court dances which were transformed by the Irish into a unique folk dance of the Irish rural communities. Promotion of Céilí dance during the 1930's and 1940s, and the rise of Rock and Roll in the 1950s caused the popularity of set dancing to fade. However, in the 1980s, a revival started and many sets that have not been done for forty years or more are being recovered and danced again.
