Millinocket is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,506 at the 2010 census. Millinocket's economy has historically been centered on forest products and recreation, but many area paper mills have closed in recent years.

1. Mount Katahdin Millinocket
Mount Katahdin is the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Maine at 5,267 feet . Named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians, which means The Greatest Mountain, it is located within Northeast Piscataquis, Piscataquis County, and is the centerpiece of Baxter State Park. It is a steep, tall masiff formed from a granite intrusion weathered to the surface. The flora and fauna on the mountain are typical of those found in northern New England. Katahdin was known to the Native Americans in the region, and was known to Europeans at least since 1689. It has inspired hikes, climbs, journal narratives, paintings, and a piano sonata. The area around the peak was protected by Governor Percival Baxter starting in the 1930s. Katahdin is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, and is located near a ...

2. Mount Kineo Rockwood
Mount Kineo is a prominent geological feature located on a 1,150-acre peninsula that extends from the easterly shore of Moosehead Lake in the northern forest of Maine. With 700-foot cliffs rising straight up from the water, it is the central feature of Mount Kineo State Park, a protected area of 800 acres managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
