The North Island is one of the two main islands of New Zealand, separated from the larger but much less populous South Island by Cook Strait. The island's area is 113,729 square kilometres , making it the world's 14th-largest island. It has a population of 3,749,200 .Twelve main urban areas are in the North Island. From north to south, they are Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Napier, Hastings, Whanganui, Palmerston North, and Wellington, the capital, located at the south-west extremity of the island. About 77% of New Zealand's population lives in the North Island.

The North Island Main Trunk is the main railway line in the North Island of New Zealand, connecting the capital city Wellington with the country's largest city, Auckland. The line is 682 kilometres long and passes through Paraparaumu, Palmerston North, Taihape, National Park, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti, Hamilton, and Pukekohe. Most of the NIMT is single track with frequent passing loops, built to the New Zealand rail gauge of 1,067 mm . The line is double track between Wellington and Waikanae , between Hamilton and Te Kauwhata , and between Meremere and Auckland Britomart. Around 460 kilometres of the line is electrified in three separate sections: one section at 1600 V DC between Wellington and Waikanae, and two sections at 25 kV AC: 412 km between Palmerston North and Te Rapa and 34 km between...

2. Gulf Harbour Marina Whangaparaoa
Gulf Harbour is a development some 4 km from the end of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, towards the northern end of Auckland, New Zealand. It has one of the country's largest marinas, one of the country's top golf courses, and is regarded as a retreat for Auckland's well-off. The site is also known as Hobbs Bay, and was sold in the early seventies by landowners, the Hobbs family, who still retain some of the coastal area including the Hobbs Bay beach. At the 2013 census, the population was 2,553 in 939 dwellings, with a median age of 43.1 years and median income of $31,200. A reputation as a rich people's location is borne out by Statistics New Zealand data which showed Gulf Harbour Marina as the Auckland suburb with the highest median income, at NZ$60,000.
