The North Island is one of the two main islands of New Zealand, separated from the larger but much less populous South Island by Cook Strait. The island's area is 113,729 square kilometres , making it the world's 14th-largest island. It has a population of 3,749,200 .Twelve main urban areas are in the North Island. From north to south, they are Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Napier, Hastings, Whanganui, Palmerston North, and Wellington, the capital, located at the south-west extremity of the island. About 77% of New Zealand's population lives in the North Island.

1. Bridal Veil Falls Raglan
Bridal Veil Falls is a plunge waterfall located along the Pakoka River in the Waikato area of New Zealand. The waterfall is 55 m high, and has over time caused the formation of a large pool at the base of the waterfall. The falls are in the 217 ha Wairēinga Scenic Reserve with tawa-dominated forest.

Whangarei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. It is part of the Whangarei District, a local body created in 1989 from the former Whangarei City, Whangarei County and Hikurangi Town councils, to administer both the city proper and its hinterland. The city population was estimated to be 58,800 in June 2018, an increase from 47,000 in 2001.

3. Rainbow Falls Kerikeri
The Rainbow Falls, Māori name Waianiwaniwa, , are a single-drop waterfall located on the Kerikeri River near Kerikeri in New Zealand. Unlike most New Zealand waterfalls which are created by the erosion of soft rock, the Rainbow Falls are sited on a hard basalt layer of rock beside softer mudstone. The falls were formed when water eroded the mudstone. The 27 metre waterfall is popular with tourists and is regularly photographed from an adjoining Department of Conservation area.The Rainbow Falls Walk is along a track which takes about 10 minutes to traverse to connect to the Kerikeri River Track which is about 3.5 km long and takes about 1.5 hours to walk. Mount Damper Falls is a waterfall in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located in the Stratford District in Taranaki. At 74 metres, the falls are one of the highest in the North Island, although they rank behind Wairere, Ananui and Waitakere Falls. It is sometimes claimed that it is also the second highest falls in New Zealand but this is incorrect. Mount Damper Falls is dwarfed by many waterfalls in the South Island such as Browne Falls and Sutherland Falls .

8. Taranaki Falls Tongariro National Park
Mount Taranaki, or Mount Egmont, is an active but quiescent stratovolcano in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. Although the mountain is more commonly referred to as Taranaki, it has two official names under the alternative names policy of the New Zealand Geographic Board. The 2,518 metres mountain is one of the most symmetrical volcanic cones in the world. There is a secondary cone, Fanthams Peak , 1,966 metres , on the south side. Because of its resemblance to Mount Fuji, Taranaki provided the backdrop for the movie The Last Samurai.

Rere is a small community in the northeast of New Zealand's North Island. it is located in the upper valley of the Wharekopae River in remote country in the foothills of the Huiarau Range, inland from Gisborne. It is notable for the Rere Falls and Rere Rock Slide, both on the Wharekopae River. Rere Falls, while not very tall at 5 metres , is a picturesque 20 metres wide waterfall. It is possible to walk behind its cascading curtain of water, although the rock face can be slippery. Rere Rock Slide has been included in the NZ Automobile Association's 101 Must-do places for Kiwis. It is a smooth, natural rock formation 60 metres long, at an angle of about 30°, over which the Wharekopae River rushes like water in a giant water slide.
