SCOTS GUARDS TO PARADE IN GLASGOW
Around 250 soldiers will take part in a homecoming parade in Glasgow after a six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The 1st Battalion Scots Guards will march from Holland Street at 11am to George Square taking in West Regent Street, Pitt Street and West George Street.
The Lord Provost will take the Salute on the dais, with the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel, Brigadier Harry Nickerson in George Square.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Rob Howieson said, It is a great honour to march through the streets of Glasgow. The Guardsmen are very proud of their work and they are humbled to be able to parade in front of their friends, families and the local community.
The battalion has had a challenging six months in Afghanistan and the parade will recognise its achievement.
The troops, currently stationed in Catterick, North Yorkshire, were deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Herrick 17 between October 2012 and April this year.
The battalion spent the duration of their tour in Helmand Province, where they were deployed to the Upper Gereshk Valley.

Diese Stadt ist ein Hotspot – im wörtlichen Sinn, denn sie ist auf sieben Vulkanhügeln erbaut; und im übertragenen Sinn, denn sie zieht von Jahr zu Jahr mehr Besucher an. Wir sprechen von Edinburgh, der schottischen Hauptstadt. Was genau Edinburgh so attraktiv macht? Michael Friemel schlüpft in einen schottischen Kilt und geht der Frage auf den Grund.
Ein Bummel über die Royal Mile, die Verbindung zwischen der alten Burg und dem neuen Parlament, gehört unbedingt zu einem Besuch. Und natürlich die Burg selbst, das Edinburgh Castle, das tolle Ausblicke bietet. Viel Geschichte hat die Stadt zu bieten – und viele Geschichten, auch Gruselgeschichten, wie Michael erfährt.
Da geht es um den mörderischen Deacon Brody, der den Edinburgher Schriftsteller Robert Louis Stevenson zu seinem Schauerroman Dr. Jekyll und Mr. Hyde inspirierte. Oder um Sherlock Holmes. Dessen Schöpfer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, studierte in Edinburgh Medizin. Und nicht zu vergessen: Der erfolgreichste zeitgenössische Krimi-Autor Großbritanniens, Ian Rankin, lebt hier und lässt seinen Inspector Rebus in der Oxford Bar einkehren.
Das Angebot an guten und gut sortierten Bars ist riesig. Michael stellt neben der Oxford Bar (in der New Town) auch die Bow Bar (in der Old Town) mit ihren 400 Single-Malt-Whiskys vor und macht ein Whisky-Tasting mit. Im bislang wenig bekannten Hafenviertel Leith entdeckt er ein schmuckes Lokal im ehemaligen Haus des Schleusenwärters. Und zum Tee findet sich unser Moderator auf der Königlichen Jacht Britannia ein, die ebenfalls im Hafen von Leith vor Anker liegt.
Zum Schluss – und exklusiv für die Zuschauer von da will ich hin! – lüftet Michael Friemel noch ein Geheimnis. Er verrät, was er unter dem Kilt trägt.

Vienna, Austria: Around the Freyung and Minoriten neighborhoods in the historic core
There are may squares in the old city of Vienna. Freyyung is one of the most interesting squares, surrounded by palaces like the Plais Harrach and the Palais Kinsky, in baroque style from the ealy 18th century. The Schottenkirche (Schotten church) and Schottenkloster (Schotten monastery) are also located in the Freyung. The church was rebuilt in baroque style in the mid 17th century.
The Minoritenplatz is one of the oldest squares in Vienna and is dominated by the Minoritenkirche church, after which the square is named. The square is surrounded by imposing baroque palaces like the Palais Lichtenstein, the Palais Niederösterreich and the Palais Starhemberg. Minoritenkirche is a gothic church built in the 14rh century.
