Sutton Cheney is a village in Leicestershire, England, close to the location of the Battle of Bosworth. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 538.Sutton Cheney Wharf on the Ashby Canal gives access to the battlefield site. There is a small cafe, operated by 'The Ashby Trip', who specialise in offering narrowboat rides on the canal. Sutton Cheney itself has two old coaching inns– the Royal Arms and the Hercules. St James' Church dates back to the 14th century. It is believed that Richard III attended Mass here for the last time in 1485 before the Battle of Bosworth.     Sir Thomas More , venerated in the Catholic Church as Saint Thomas More, was an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and noted Renaissance humanist. He was also a councillor to Henry VIII, and Lord High Chancellor of England from October 1529 to 16 May 1532. He wrote Utopia, published in 1516, about the political system of an imaginary, ideal island nation. More opposed the Protestant Reformation, in particular the theology of Martin Luther and William Tyndale. More also opposed the king's separation from the Catholic Church, refusing to acknowledge Henry as Supreme Head of the Church of England and the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon.
