Sweetwater County is a county located in southwestern Wyoming, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 43,806. Its county seat is Green River. By area, it is the largest county in Wyoming. It is in the southwestern part of Wyoming, north of the Colorado-Utah state line. Sweetwater County comprises the Rock Springs, Green River, Wyoming Micropolitan Statistical Area.

  • 1. Boars Tusk, Rock Springs Wyoming
    Boars Tusk is an isolated butte within the Rock Springs Uplift in the Green River Basin of southwestern Wyoming. The butte has a peak elevation of 7,101 ft and rises some 400 ft above the surrounding Killpecker Creek plain and lies 26.2 mi north of Rock Springs. The north end of White Mountain lies 3.0 mi to the west.Boars Tusk is an isolated remnant of a long extinct volcano associated with the Leucite Hills to the east. Heavily eroded, all that remains of the volcano is part of the erosion resistant volcanic neck which is composed of the uncommon volcanic rock lamproite. Rock samples from Boars Tusk provided an age of 2.5 MA.

  • 2. Flaming Gorge Rock Springs Wyoming
    Flaming Gorge Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Wyoming, on the Green River, impounded behind the Flaming Gorge Dam. Construction on the dam began in 1958 and was completed in 1964. The reservoir stores 3,788,900 acre feet of water when measured at an elevation of 6,040 feet above sea-level .
