  • 1. Grape Valley Turpan
    Grape Valley is an area in Turpan, Xinjiang, China, where grape and other fruits are grown in this arid land. The valley is 8 km long, 600-2,000 meters wide, and is located some 10 km east of Turpan's city center.Turpan has a historically long tradition of growing grape and other fruits, using the karez underground irrigation system. It is famous for growing the seedless white grape, the manaizi grape. Raisin and other dried fruits are also sold at the Grape Valley tourists' area. Grape and raisin production in Turpan accounts for over eighty percent of China's total, making China the world's third-largest producer of raisins and the world's largest producer of green raisins.

    Shanshan County as the official romanized name, also transliterated from Uyghur as Piqan County , is a county within the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and is under the administrative jurisdiction of the prefecture-level city of Turpan. It contains an area of 39,548 km2 , occupying the eastern majority of Turpan. According to the 2002 census, it has a population of 210,000. The county seat is in Shanshan Town.
