Ulan-Ude is the capital city of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia; it is located about 100 kilometers southeast of Lake Baikal on the Uda River at its confluence with the Selenga. According to the 2010 Census, 404,426 people lived in Ulan-Ude; up from 359,391 recorded in the 2002 Census, making the city the third largest in eastern Siberia by population.

  • 1. Monument to Lenin Ulan Ude
    The Karl Marx Monument is a 7.10m-tall stylized head of Karl Marx in Chemnitz, Germany. The heavy-duty sculpture, together with the base platform, stand over 13 meters tall and weights approximately 40 tonnes. On a wall just behind the monument, the phrase Workers of the world, unite! is inscripted in four languages: German, English, French and Russian. It is the most famous monument in the inner city of Chemnitz and the second-largest bust in the world, after the 60 cm higher Lenin's head in Ulan-Ude, Russia. There is a well known local nickname for the monument: Nischel, which is derived from the Central German term for head or skull.
