Visingsö is an island in the southern half of Lake Vättern in Sweden. Visingsö lies 30 kilometres north of the city Jönköping and 6 kilometres west of Gränna from which two car ferries connect the island. The island is 14 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide, with a total area of 24 square kilometres . According to legend, a giant named Vist created Visingsö by throwing a lump of soil into the lake so that his wife could use it to step over the lake.

Brahe Church is a church building on the island of Visingsö in the lake of Vättern in Sweden. Belonging to the Visingsö Parish of the Church of Sweden, it was opened in 1636 as Wisingsborg Castle Church .Brahe Church was erected as a royal church at the beginning of the 17th century. A church built in the Middle Ages, Ströja Church, already existed on its site at that time. Ströja Church was built in the 12th century and was then the royal church. At the beginning of the 17th century, Count Magnus Brahe built a new church on the foundation of the medieval Ströja Church. All that Magnus Brahe retained from the older church was the beautifully ornamented door to the sacristy, which probably originally stood in the main entrance of Ströja Church. Alvastra is a small village in Ödeshög Municipality in eastern Sweden. It is known for being the seat of the Cistercian Alvastra Abbey in the Middle Ages, established in 1143 by French monks. After the Swedish Lutheran reformation in the 1530s, the monastery was demolished, never to be rebuilt. The Alvastra monastery ruin is today well preserved and popular place to visit.
