Werchter is a small village in Belgium which has been part of the municipality of Rotselaar since 1 January 1977. It is the site of Rock Werchter and the birthplace of the painters Cornelius Van Leemputten and Frans Van Leemputten. The origin of the Werchter's name is unknown, but is thought to be related to water.

Rock Werchter is an annual music festival held in the village of Werchter, near Leuven, since 1976 and is a large sized annual rock music festival. The 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2014 festivals received the Arthur award for best festival in the world at the International Live Music Conference . It can host 88,000 guests daily, of which 67,500 combine all four days, to add up to a total maximum of 149,500 different attendees.The festival started in 1974 as a one-day event with performances from Banzai and Kandahar, but over the years it has evolved to become one of Belgium's largest music festivals. After a great meal last night and settling in to our really nice Air B&B in the center of Brussels we got up to explore the city. This video features some famous tourist spots in Brussels as well as street entertainers, a visit to a chocolate shop, Belgium Waffles and some other interesting tidbits. We had kind of a late start due to some camera and computer issues. That is why I am just filing this video blog now. Brussels was a great city to visit. The people we talked to did not seem as friendly as the people in Germany. That aside......Food was GREAT! You must try Waffles, Escargot and Chocolate.

I did this trip on my own, from the 10th of may till the 11th of june, 2011.
The countries I crossed were Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium.
The total distance was around 3.500km.
All my sleeping places were CouchSurfing.org adresses except for the sleeping place in Serres, Greece because I didn't plan to go there. And in Pitesti and Sighisoara I slept with people from the charity projects.
I did almost all the distances by hitch-hiking, but sometimes I took the train or the bus when the weather wasn't so great or when I was too tired.
