The City of Woodland Park is a Home Rule Municipality that is the most populous city in Teller County, Colorado, United States and is immediately west of El Paso County and the unincorporated community of Crystola. Many residents in thisbedroom community, which is surrounded by the one-million acre (4,000 km²) Pike National Forest, make the 17-mile (27 km) commute to Colorado Springs. Ute Pass lies 12 miles (19 km) to the west of Woodland Park on US 24. The population was 6,515 at the 2000 census. Nearby Douglas County is about a fifteen-minute drive from the city.
Called the The City Above the Clouds, Woodland Park, at 8,465 feet (2,580 m) above sea level, often enjoys clear skies while weather in neighboring towns may be rainy or overcast. The city has pursued a policy of careful growth, and enjoys dramatic views of Pikes Peak. Woodland Park offers easy access to hiking, climbing, and fishing. Because of the city's location, there is a natural limitation to population growth. As of the census of 2000, there were 6,515 people, 2,476 households, and 1,884 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,151.0 people per square mile (444.4/km²). There were 2,642 housing units at an average density of 466.8 per square mile (180.2/km²). Day 7 - Goldfield RV Park, Colorado Springs, CO
CANADA Bound - Day 7 takes us on a leisurely 157 mile cruise from northern New mexico to Colorado Springs, CO. We spent 2 nights in town at Goldfield RV Park on 26th St. This is a nice inexpensive Passport America facility with FHU, WiFi, Cable TV, and laundry. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the site was level. The bathrooms and showers were clean. It is situated about 15 minutes from Garden of the Gods and about 30 minutes from the entrance to Pikes Peak Hwy. One of my longtime fantasies was to drive to the top of Pikes Peak and this made Colorado Springs a destination for us on our way to Canada.
Cripple Creek Colorado, United States
Cripple Creek Colorado. United States 2005.
The City of Cripple Creek is the Statutory City that is the county seat of Teller County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 1189 at the 2010 United States Census. Cripple Creek is a former gold mining camp located 44 miles (71 km) southwest of Colorado Springs near the base of Pikes Peak. The Cripple Creek Historic District, which received National Historic Landmark status in 1961, includes part or all of city and includes surrounding area. The city is now a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. With many empty storefronts and picturesque homes, Cripple Creek once drew interest as a ghost town. At one point the population dropped to a few hundred, although Cripple Creek was never entirely deserted. In the 1970s and 1980s travelers on photo safari might find themselves in a beautiful decaying historic town. A few restaurants and bars catered to tourists who could pass weathered empty homes with lace curtains hanging in broken windows.
Colorado voters allowed Cripple Creek to establish legalized gambling in 1991. Cripple Creek is currently more of a gambling and tourist town than a ghost town. Casinos now occupy many historic buildings. Casino gambling has been successful in bringing revenue and vitality back into the area. It also provides funding for the State Historical Fund, administered by the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. In 2012, Colorado casinos produced over $104 million in tax revenue for these programs.

The scenic rural state of West Virginia with its abundance of natural resources provides a perfect backdrop for a true American adventure holiday. Driving tours lead to quaint B&Bs and renowned warm hospitality, breathtaking landscapes carve routes for mountain biking, motorbike journeys and RVs exploring state parks. The camouflaged tracks of the many hiking trails and fishing areas display the natural beauty while championship golf courses, ski runs and white water rafting offer seasonal sporting activities.
Offering unique Appalachian culture, John Denver's ballad adequately describes its state's country roads, dramatic scenery at every turn and the spectacular kaleidoscope of colour in the Autumn. It is a state which is 80% forested, with 7 state forests, 36 state parks and 200,000 acres of protected woodland parks interlaced by 2,000 miles of rivers and streams. Accommodation ranges from log cabins, motels, guest houses to the historical Greenbrier Resort, favoured by Presidents.
West Virginia boasts seven wonders of the natural world, from beaches, waterfalls, high plains plateau to river and mountain trails, rock formations and gorges. There are several lake beaches offering swimming and boating in lush green settings. The 2,700-acre Summersville Lake and 1,500-acre Sutton Lake are great for mountain biking and hiking trails. Named for its amber-coloured water, the falls spill into the Blackwater Canyon and great for hiking and biking.
The New River Gorge is the perfect landscape for rafting, rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking along one of the world's oldest and scenic white water rivers.
