Oregon: A Craft Beer Road Trip
Oregon is a mecca for craft beer lovers (like yours truly) but what’s the best way to experience it all? An Oregon craft beer road trip! Our Oregon road trip included stops at some of the Pacific Northwest’s most delicious breweries including De Garde Brewing, Sedition Brewing Company, Hair of the Dog and at least a dozen more. We also hit up some of Oregon’s most beautiful scenery like Multnomah Falls and Smith Rock State Park, and – last but by no means least – we had a sloth encounter at Oregon’s Sloth Center, which was a dream come true. We fed, pet and played with sloths. Hello, heaven.
To get a full run-down of this epic Oregon craft beer road trip, check out my detailed post over on the blog:

RUMRUNNER'S PARADISE
New Year's Eve, 1915 was a party to end all parties in Spokane. At the stroke of midnight, every saloon in the state would be out of business. This would be the last call before statewide prohibition would be enacted, closing the taps four years before the rest of the nation. But even as revelers saluted the new dry year, a lucrative wet underworld was forming between Spokane and Canada.
#BigWestern NW / SW Regional US Coffee Championships at Lot 613 by SCAA / BGA w/ Curtis & Portola
The #BigWestern brought together the West Coast coffee community in the heart of the Downtown Arts District at Lot 613 (Mobile Version: The 3 day event sponsored by Curtis / Portola Coffee Lab and produced by the SCAA / BGA was all about a little friendly competition with baristas coming from all over California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii, and even Alaska to get a chance to win a trip to nationals in Seattle. The Big Western reunited old coffee veterans / pros while new venders were introduced to the coffee world. Overall, the weekend was a great success and fun for competitors as well as the many spectators that came out to learn about coffee or to cheer on friends. Congratulations to all the winners! See you at Nationals!

SUMMARY
=======
Tacoma ( tə-KOH-mə) is a midsized urban port city and the county seat of Pierce County, Washington, United States. The city is on Washington's Puget Sound, 32 miles (51 km) southwest of Seattle (of which it is the largest satellite city), 31 miles (50 km) northeast of the state capital, Olympia, and 58 miles (93 km) northwest of Mount Rainier National Park. The population was 198,397, according to the 2010 census. Tacoma is the second-largest city in the Puget Sound area and the third-largest in the state. Tacoma also serves as the center of business activity for the South Sound region, which has a population around 1 million.
Tacoma adopted its name after the nearby Mount Rainier, originally called Takhoma or Tahoma. It is locally known as the City of Destiny because the area was chosen to be the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad in the late 19th century. The decision of the railroad was influenced by Tacoma's neighboring deep-water harbor, Commencement Bay. By connecting the bay with the railroad, Tacoma's motto became When rails meet sails. Commencement Bay serves the Port of Tacoma, a center of international trade on the Pacific Coast and Washington's largest port.
Like most industrial cities, Tacoma suffered a prolonged decline in the mid-20th century as a result of suburbanization and divestment. Since the 1990s, developments in the downtown core include the University of Washington Tacoma; Tacoma Link, the first modern electric light rail service in the state; the state's highest density of art and history museums; and a restored urban waterfront, the Thea Foss Waterway.
Tacoma has been named one of the most livable areas in the United States. In 2006, Tacoma was listed as one of the most walkable cities in the country. That same year, the women's magazine Self named Tacoma the Most Sexually Healthy City in the United States.Tacoma gained notoriety in 1940 for the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which earned the nickname Galloping Gertie.

SUMMARY
=======
The Pabst Brewing Company () is an American company that dates its origins to a brewing company founded in 1844 by Jacob Best and was, by 1889, named after Frederick Pabst. It is currently a holding company which contracts the brewing of over two dozen brands of beer and malt liquor: these include its own flagship Pabst Blue Ribbon, as well as brands from now defunct breweries including P. Ballantine and Sons Brewing Company, G. Heileman Brewing Company, Lone Star Brewing Company, Pearl Brewing Company, Piels Bros., Valentin Blatz Brewing Company, National Brewing Company, Olympia Brewing Company, Falstaff Brewing Corporation, Primo Brewing & Malting Company, Rainier Brewing Company, F & M Schaefer Brewing Company, Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company and Stroh Brewery Company.The company is also responsible for the brewing of Ice Man Malt Liquor, St. Ides High Gravity Malt Liquor, and retail versions of beers from McSorley's Old Ale House and Southampton Publick House (of Southampton, New York).Pabst is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. On November 13, 2014, Pabst announced that it had completed its sale to Blue Ribbon Intermediate Holdings, LLC. Blue Ribbon is a partnership between Russian-American beer entrepreneur Eugene Kashper and TSG Consumer Partners, a San Francisco–based private equity firm. Prior reports suggested the price agreed upon was around $700 million.In 2017 the company opened the Pabst Milwaukee Brewery, a brewpub located in an old chapel on the original Milwaukee Pabst Brewery campus, that brews relatively small batches of craft-type beers and long-discontinued, historic Pabst brands (such as Old Tankard and Andeker).

Whiskey and Disruptive Technology: How New Technology can Change a $25 Billion Industry
Serial entrepreneur Tom Lix is Cleveland Whiskey's founder and CEO. Inspired by the 1970 film MASH, Lix first learned how to distill while stationed on a U.S. Navy Destroyer just prior to its decommissioning. With considerable help from an almost retired chief petty officer, he learned to make bootleg spirits from fermented fruit juice, discarded steel piping and patched up sea-water condensers.
More recently he was the director of the Burton D. Morgan and Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation funded Center for Entrepreneurship at Lake Erie College and an associate professor of entrepreneurship at the same institution. He was the president and chairman of application services provider Public Interactive® (now NPR Digital Services which he founded in 1995 and the former president of Market Pulse™, a Cambridge-based, database software company and subsidiary of Computer Corporation of America.
Previously, he was president and chief operating officer of Yankelovich Partners (yankelovich.com), where he consulted for leading food, beverage, hospitality and entertainment companies including Guinness PLC, Proctor & Gamble, PepsiCo, Burger King and Harrah's Entertainment. In addition, Lix has consulted to leading media companies and brands such as HBO®, Time magazine, and MTV Networks; travel and transportation companies including American Airlines, Amtrak and Northwest Airlines; as well as service delivery and technology innovators that included FedEx® and Visa.
Lix was a once upon a time student activist and college dropout who hitchhiked across the country, fought forest fires in Alaska at the age of 17, and founded the first university sponsored Motorcycle Club in America. He later earned his doctorate in business administration, with an emphasis in marketing information systems and predictive forecasting models, from Boston University.
The SIEMENS Distinguished Lecture Series was created in fall of 2013 in an effort to fill the need for a public forum to discuss new and emerging technologies and other current topics in the engineering, manufacturing and entrepreneurship industries.
The Great American Beer Festival 2017 | Cascadian Beer Podcast
I've left Cascadia and ventured to Denver, Colorado where I was fortunate enough to attend The Great American Beer Festival 2017. This is my first time at the festival and had such a great experience that I've documented in this episode.
I've come to Denver to not only learn about trending beers from around the country but also to see how influential the Pacific Northwest has been in the brewing industry.
