Civil War Memorial in Atlantic City
There aren't very many Civil War monuments in the northern states. Unlike the southern states where there are monuments and museums, galore.
Absecon Lighthouse - Atlantic City, New Jersey
Standing at 171 feet, Absecon Lighthouse located in Atlantic City is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1933 and although the light still shines every night, it is no longer an active navigational aid. My son and I visited and climbed the lighthouse late March, 2018.
Monument dedicated to former sex slaves unveiled in New Jersey
A monument dedicated to the thousands upon thousands of women forced into sexual slavery in the early 20th Century... has been unveiled in the U.S. state of New Jersey.
Two surviving Korean victims, now elderly women,... took part in the emotional opening ceremony.
Kwon Soa reports.
This iron butterfly has been established to remember the hundreds of thousands of women who were forced into sexual slavery before and during the Second World War by the Japanese military.
Honoring the so-called comfort women from Korea, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, the Netherlands, and Indonesia, the monument was unveiled at Liberty Plaza in Union City, New Jersey on Monday.
It is the seventh such memorial in the United States honoring the sexual slavery victims, but this one is a bit different, in that it's the first time a local government took the initiative in creating it.
Korean communities had taken the lead in other projects throughout the U.S.
It's about human rights, it's about education. Educating our youth about what took place in the past, so we don't make the same mistakes again.
Two surviving Korean comfort women took part in the emotional ceremony that welcomed some 400 people.
We thank the American and Korean people who have come here, and although we don't have much time left, we will live the rest of our lives with strength.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the California District Court rejected a request from a group of Japanese-Americans who want a memorial statue that was put up last year outside of Glendale City Hall removed.

Crossing Delaware Memorial Bridge From New Jersey to Delaware
The Delaware Memorial Bridge is a twin suspension bridge crossing the Delaware River. The toll bridges carry Interstate 295 and U.S. Route 40 between Delaware and New Jersey. The bridge was designed by the firm known today as HNTB with consulting help from engineer Othmar Ammann, whose other designs include the Walt Whitman Bridge (which is similar in appearance, except for the fact that it is a single span) and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. It is also one of only two crossings of the Delaware River with both U.S. Highway and Interstate Highway designations, the other being the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
The bridges provide a regional connection for long-distance travelers.[1] While not a part of Interstate 95, they connect two parts of the highway: the Delaware Turnpike (Interstate 95 in Delaware) on the south side with the New Jersey Turnpike (later Interstate 95 in New Jersey) on the north side. They also connect Interstate 495, U.S. Route 13, and Route 9 in New Castle, Delaware with U.S. Route 130 in Pennsville Township, New Jersey (at the settlement of Deepwater, New Jersey).
The bridges are dedicated to those from both New Jersey and Delaware who died in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War. On the Delaware side of the bridge is a War Memorial, visible from the northbound-side lanes. The toll facility is operated by the Delaware River and Bay Authority.
The Delaware Memorial Bridge is the southernmost fixed vehicular crossing of the Delaware River and the only fixed vehicular crossing between Delaware and New Jersey. However, at Fort Mott, N.J., there is a small amount of land on the New Jersey side of the river that is part of the State of Delaware, and thus there are pedestrian crossings in between those states, but not spanning the river. The Cape May–Lewes Ferry provides an alternate route between travelers from New Jersey and the Northeastern States to southern Delaware.

VIETNAM and KOREAN WAR MUSEUM CAPE MAY NEW JERSEY
The sound is not very good at the beginning of the video. Just a few seconds......I had to do it that way so that I could 'turn down the buzzer' that went off when ever people came in. Please watch anyways. As you will see, Tom Collins needs donations to keep his dream going.
I want to explain 'why' the letter from Joseph Turnage and the Rosary were so moving to me and my husband. Our daughter was serving with the 3rd Armored Division in the first Gulf War. They were 'in' Iraq. At the time I didn't know this. I thought that she was in Saudi Arabia.....Two pieces of mail got through to her Unit. One was from my cousin Mary Hennissey from Brookline, Ma. She had sent A Soldiers Prayer for everyone. The other one was a box of Irish bread that we had sent. We lived in Wado, Maine. Because of her job Noreen was able to call the next day and tell me how amazing it was that just those two got delivered. She gave out the prayer cards and they were all enjoying the bread. While I was talking to my daughter on the phone I saw on the TV that the bombing had just begun. It was such a surreal moment. You can't imagine the range of emotions that I / we went through. The daughter telling the mother that everything will be alright and the daughter knowing that she was there watching it all...... It was alright and she did come home safe.
This is a Museum that everyone should visit. It was started by Thomas Collins and his wife. It is a beautiful and very emotional tribute to all of the veterans of the Vietnam and Korean Wars. It was the first time that I had seen what it must have been like to be a prisoner of war and actually 'see' the cage that they were kept in. Hopefully everyone
who watches this video will send them a donation so that they can expand the Museum. The song Show Me The Place is by Leonard Cohen. One of my favorite performers....

The monument is meant to remember the victims and raise awareness of Japan's atrocities, but as Union City Commissioner Lucio Fernandez says, it's about more than that.
It's also about a general message of peace,.. and the protection of women today throughout the world from kidnapping and sex crimes.

Is This The Scariest Bridge In America?
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland reaches nearly 200 feet in certain parts and measures 4.3-miles long from end to end - and for some motorists, getting behind the wheel and driving across the bridge is simply out of the question.
They're talking about moving the WWI Monument
The World War I Monument used to stand alone in the middle of the street. It was at the center of a circle that cars drove around.
Then around 10 years ago, got rid of the circle and attached the monument to the adjacent park.
Now, they want to widen Albany Ave and they are talking about moving the monument into the middle of the park.

On 9/11, This Canadian Town Welcomed In Stranded Passengers
In the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks, United States airspace was shut down and hundreds of inbound flights needed a place to land. Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador became one of those places. That day, 7,000 shaken and disoriented passengers arrived in Gander, nearly doubling the town’s population of 11,000. The entire community got involved by literally and figuratively opening its doors to stranded passengers who never forgot the hospitality of the small Canadian town.
