Dog Canyon Trail - Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA
An easy trail leading to a small gully and canyon. You can park on the side of the road in the designated area. The marker at the beginning of the trail says it is 1.9 miles to the canyon, so out and back should be around 3.8 miles.
Much of the trail crosses scrub, sand, and river bottom, and is marked by cairns. There isn't much shade as there are very few trees along the trail. Make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat.
Texas hot springs, Big bend National Park
Big Bend National Park 2019 Boquillas Hot Springs Canyon Trail. The trail goes up and down over several ridges from the Rio Grande Village area to the Hot Springs. Start out early as it can be very hot with the sun reflecting off the rocks. Hike the 6-miles roundtrip, a beautiful hike, steep at first. Coming from RGV, the scenery is more beautiful after the first half of the trail when the Rio Grande becomes more visible. There is an option of driving close via Hot Springs Road and then a short walk there.... don't do it, take the hike. The experience of the hot springs is enhanced after you've earned it (via a fairly difficult and gorgeous 3 mile hike.

Santa Elena Canyon Trail, Big Bend National Park
Almost an hour drive from our campsite in the Rio Grand Vally. after arriving we walked through a very sandy area with a wooden path, then over the smooth rocks from the river finally up, almost straight up the cliffs. The trail zig zagged for about 10 minutes as we climbed up to almost the top of the mountain. then we had a gental decent following along the inside of the canyon walls. at the end we met a family from San Antonio, they were very nice and even helped us get some video of all of us together. The kids enjoyed echoes and playing in the water and mud.
