Zoots Cannabis Facility Tour | Seattle, Washington
When you think about legalized weed, you probably don't think about the food side of the industry. Cannabis infused edibles are all the rage in legal states and the Respect My Region team was fortunate enough to tour one of our favorite edible brands, Zoots.
Located right in downtown Seattle, Zoots has been one of the leading producers of infused marijuana products since recreational marijuana became legal. Zoots provides both Washington and Colorado with delicious treats such as cookies, drink mixers, energy shots and even hard candies.
What separates Zoots from the rest of the pack is they use practices that the FDA requires traditional food processing companies to follow. Current regulations and laws do not require these practices for a cannabis company, however, Zoots takes the extra step to ensure that their products are consistent.
For more updates on the legal cannabis industry, follow Respect My Region on Facebook and Twitter.

Herbs Haul from Pike Place Market in Seattle Washington
Found a little herb shop with nice folks and lots of good herbs. I'm glad I found this store in the maze that is the pike place market! :)
Pike Place Market is the famous Seattle marketplace (where they throw fish!)
There are street vendors, live musicians, the smell of the sea and fresh seafood. There are crowds of people, lots of seagulls, hills, pick-pockets and homeless people. There is good and bad and it's definitely an interesting place to go (but watch your kids closely!)
Inside The First Amazon Go Store
Here's what it's like inside Amazon's cashier-less store. Amazon Go has no checkout lines, cashiers, or registers. The store is located in Seattle, right near Amazon's campus.
They sell prepared foods and grocery staples. There's also a small selection of beer and wine.
You use the Amazon Go app to enter the store.
Here's how the entire process works.
Customers enter the turnstiles by scanning a QR code. Anything you pick up is added to your virtual cart. Any items you put back will automatically be removed from your cart. Once you finished shopping, you can walk right out.
No cashier needed. Your Amazon account will automatically be charged.
But how does Amazon make sure no one steals anything?
Amazon Go uses cameras and high-tech sensors. The combination of cameras and sensors keeps track of where the items are located. However, the technology isn't perfect, as some YouTubers have proven.
Currently, Seattle is Amazon Go's pilot location.
Will walk in and walk out stores be the future of retail?

The Untold Truth Of Baskin-Robbins
There's a lot to learn about Baskin-Robbins, from what goes into the ice cream, to the two dessert fanatics who started the business. So let's take a deep dive into the history and mystery behind one of the best-known ice cream shops in the world.
Some in-laws find it difficult to tolerate each other long enough to get through Thanksgiving dinner, so starting a business venture together is usually out of the question. But brothers-in-law Burton Baskin and Irvine Robbins had one passion in common that united them forever, and that passion was ice cream.
Robbins was the son of a dairy owner and came of age in his family's ice cream store, scooping up sundaes and happiness to customers all over Tacoma, Washington. He joined the Army during World War II, and when he got out in 1945, his passion for ice cream led him to found the Snowbird Ice Cream store in Glendale, California.
Baskin, who was married to Robbins' sister Shirley, had the same idea. He founded Burton's Ice Cream in Pasadena, California in 1946. By 1948, the duo had combined their stores to create one chain that would one day be the most famous ice cream shop in the country. They flipped a coin to see whose name would come first on the sign, and the coin told them to keep it alphabetical.
Following the founders' time at the helm, Robbins wanted his son John to inherit the business, but he ended up becoming a vegan and blazing his own trail outside the ice cream industry. However, he did leave a legacy behind at Baskin-Robbins, as he created one of the most popular flavors, Jamoca Almond Fudge.
When you think Baskin-Robbins, you probably automatically think 31 flavors. That's the company's gimmick, and it was meant to imply that the shop had so many different flavors that you could try a new one every day of the month. Irvine Robbins loved inventing ice cream flavors that were a combination of fun and goofy. Some were even connected to current events, like Lunar Cheesecake, which was introduced in 1969 in honor of the moon landing. So it should come as no surprise that in actuality, there are a lot more than 31 flavors to be sampled at this beloved store.
In fact, more than 1,300 flavors have been introduced to the world via the Baskin-Robbins empire. They aren't all available all the time, but this huge variety of tastes ensures that there's something out there for everyone. It's thanks to the brilliant minds of Baskin and Robbins that we have more than just vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry to put in our bowls and cones, and our sweet teeth are eternally grateful. Thanks to these dessert tycoons, the biggest ice cream fans throughout the world can spend their whole lives discovering new, delicious flavors.
Keep watching the video to find out more about the untold truth of Baskin-Robbins!

Global Specialty Coffee EXPO 2018 in Seattle - Josua Simanjuntak (BEKRAF)
Hi Indonesian Diaspora in United States,
I went to the Specialty Coffee Association of America Conference and Exhibition (SCAA Expo) in Seattle last week. I had opportunity interviewed Mr. Josua Simanjuntak, Deputy Chairman for Marketing of Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy or Badan Ekonomi Kreatif Indonesia (BEKRAF).
Specialty Coffee Association of America Conference and Exhibition (SCAA Expo) is designed to be the coffee professional's one stop shop for everything they need to succeed in the coffee industry. Roasters & retailers could attend and have the opportunity to exhibit their products on the show floor, network with the industry's decision makers, and further their professional careers by participating in the SCAA's numerous lectures, labs or certificate programs.
This four days coffee industry conference and trade show is being organized by Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). SCAA Expo 2018 showcase a wide range of products and services related to coffee sector from the leading exhibitors such as accessories for retailers, allied beverages, allied foods, brewing & grinding equipment, cart & kiosk, chocolate, cocoa, flavorings, syrups, sweeteners, additives, green coffee, growers’ requirements, packaging equipment & materials, professional services, retailers requirements, roasted coffee, roasters requirements, tea, water treatment products & services.
Indonesian premium coffee managed to record a potential transaction worth USD25 million at the 2018 Global Specialty Coffee Expo (GSCE) in Seattle, Washington - USA.
Washington DC Trade Attaché Reza Pahlevi said Indonesia's flagship premium coffee has stolen the world's attention in this largest coffee exhibition in North America, which took place on April 19-22, 2018 at the Washington State Convention Center, Seattle.
Indonesia pavilion managed to record a potential transaction of USD25 million in this exhibition. Increased trend among coffee lovers in the US can be used as an opportunity to promote premium coffee of Indonesia. The Indonesian government is synergizing with Indonesian coffee producers to continue to promote variants of superior coffee in Indonesia, Reza said in a press release on Thursday (4/26/2018).
At this time GSCE, Indonesia Pavilion showcases the taste of superior coffee from various regions in Indonesia. The coffees include sumatra gayo, sumatra simalungun, lampung robusta, liberica tungkal jambi, java preanger, java ijen raung, java sindoro, bali kintamani, flores bajawa, sulawesi toraja arabica, kalosi arabica enrekang, papua wamena. Not only that, the variety of dried coffee with wet mills, honey, and natural methods are also displayed. Differences of this method enrich the taste of coffee on display, thus making the visitors more interested to know more about Indonesian coffee.
If in 2016 US coffee imports were worth USD5.6 billion, then in 2017 imports went up 10 percent to USD6.1 billion. Currently, Indonesia ranks sixth for coffee exporting countries to the US with 5.05 percent market share.
Reza noted Indonesia's coffee exports to the US reached USD312 million in 2017. This value climbed from 2016's USD304 million. It is encouraging for Indonesia because in the same period some major coffee exporter countries to the US such as Brazil and Peru actually recorded a decline in exports.
Indonesia as the world's fourth largest coffee exporter has an excellent reputation among premium coffee lovers around the world. The momentum to increase Indonesian coffee exports to the US market should be able to be utilized by coffee entrepreneurs in Indonesia to further introduce variants of Indonesian premium coffee, Reza said.

Vancouver, officially the City of Vancouver, is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The 2011 census recorded 603,502 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality.[1] The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country,[1] the second largest city on the United States–Canada border, and the most populous in Western Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents have a first language other than English.[4][5] Vancouver is classed as a Beta global city. The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city with over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco,[6] and Mexico City.
The original settlement, named Gastown, grew up on clearcuts on the west edge of the Hastings Mill logging sawmill's property, where a makeshift tavern had been set up on a plank between two stumps and the proprietor, Gassy Jack, persuaded the curious millworkers to build him a tavern, on 1 July 1867. From that first enterprise, other stores and some hotels quickly appeared along the waterfront to the west. Gastown became formally laid out as a registered townsite dubbed Granville, B.I. (B.I standing for Burrard Inlet). As part of the land and political deal whereby the area of the townsite was made the railhead of the CPR, it was renamed Vancouver and incorporated shortly thereafter as a city, in 1886. By 1887, the transcontinental railway was extended to the city to take advantage of its large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient, Eastern Canada, and Europe.[7][8] As of 2009, Port Metro Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada, and the most diversified port in North America.[9] While forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry.[10] Major film production studios in Vancouver and Burnaby have turned Greater Vancouver and nearby areas into one of the largest film production centres in North America,[11][12] earning it the film industry nickname, Hollywood North.[13][14][15]
Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life,[16][17] and the Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as the first city to rank among the top-ten of the world's most liveable cities[18] for five consecutive years.[19] Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, UN Habitat I, Expo 86, the World Police and Fire Games in 1989 and 2009; and the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 Winter Paralympics which were held in Vancouver and Whistler, a resort community 125 km (78 mi) north of the city.[20] In 2014, following thirty years in California, the annual TED conference made Vancouver its indefinite home. Several matches of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup were played in Vancouver, including the final at BC Place Stadium.[21]
