4K City Walks: Missoula Montana virtual treadmill walking tour
Stopped by Missoula Montana on a cold winters day and took a walk starting at the old depot and making my way across the Clark's Fork with pancake ice over to the University of Montana and the Grizzly statue there. Hope you enjoy. Please subscribe.
Missoula is a city in the U.S. state of Montana and is the county seat of Missoula County. It is located along the Clark Fork River near its confluences with the Bitterroot and Blackfoot Rivers in western Montana and at the convergence of five mountain ranges, thus is often described as the hub of five valleys. In 2017, the United States Census Bureau estimated the city's population at 73,340 and the population of the Missoula Metropolitan Area at 117,441. After Billings, Missoula is both the second largest city and metropolitan area in Montana. Missoula is home to the University of Montana, a public research university.
People of European descent first settled in the Missoula area in 1858, with William T. Hamilton setting up a trading post near current Missoula along the Rattlesnake Creek, Captain Richard Grant settling near Grant Creek, and David Pattee near Pattee Canyon. Missoula was founded in 1860 as Hellgate Trading Post while still part of Washington Territory. By 1866, the settlement had moved east, 5 miles (8 km) upstream, and renamed Missoula Mills, later shortened to Missoula. The mills provided supplies to western settlers traveling along the Mullan Road. The establishment of Fort Missoula in 1877 to protect settlers further stabilized the economy. The arrival of the Northern Pacific Railway in 1883 brought rapid growth and the maturation of the local lumber industry. In 1893, the Montana Legislature chose the city as the site for the state's first university. Along with the U.S. Forest Service headquarters founded in 1908, lumber and the university remained staples of the local economy for the next hundred years.
By the 1990s, Missoula's lumber industry had gradually disappeared, and as of 2009, the city's largest employers were the University of Montana, Missoula County Public Schools, and Missoula's two hospitals. The city is governed by a mayor–council government with twelve city council members, two from each of the six wards. In and around Missoula are 400 acres (160 ha) of parkland, 22 miles (35 km) of trails, and nearly 5,000 acres (2,000 ha) of open-space conservation land with adjacent Mount Jumbo home to grazing elk and mule deer during the winter. The city is also home to both Montana's largest and its oldest active breweries as well as the Montana Grizzlies, one of the strongest college football programs in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Notable residents include the first woman in the U.S. Congress, Jeannette Rankin, and the United States' longest-serving Senate Majority Leader, Mike Mansfield.

Let's take a virtual tour of Missoula Montana!
Let's explore the world through Google Street View.
Today we are visiting Missoula Montana in the north western part of the United State. I had a nice time looking around at this town, checking out the old places and some of the new. Great surrounding hills and mountains. I could definitely see spending a couple days check out the place if I get up in that area.
Here you can check out where we have been on Google Maps.
Thanks to Google for Street View.

What It's Like To Live in Montana
It's been two weeks living full-time in Big Sky, Montana - watch to learn how things are going!
Last year, I fell in love with skiing and picked up a part-time seasonal job at a Montana Ski Resort for the Winter 2016/2017 season.
Prior to moving to Montana, I lived in NYC for five years and worked at a large advertising and marketing agency. Originally from Florida, living near the Rocky Mountains has been an incredible opportunity.
Throughout the winter, I am documenting my experience working at a ski resort and also as a freelance marketing consultant. PS - I learned how to ski a year ago at 28 years old. :)

Missoula MT Real Estate Neighborhoods University District.
Healthy minds have led to a vibrant and healthy community surrounding the university.
In addition to being the setting of “A River Runs Through It,” Missoula is known nationally as the home of the University of Montana. Tailgating for Griz home football games is a Saturday tradition in the fall, as are springtime days of sun illuminating the newly greened trees. Throughout the year, the university brings in cultural events, historic exhibits, major entertainment, and world-class athletics. UM also brings a diverse population to this Northern Rocky Mountain town. Among the beautiful tree-lined streets of the University Neighborhood, residents are happy to share their home with the city’s center of activity. Longtime residents, families, professors, and students inhabit the blocks around the campus proper. It is truly a melting pot of the community. The proximity to UM’s activities is a definite benefit to these neighbors. From evening lectures to concerts to basketball games, if you’re looking for something to do it’s all right there. There’s an open-minded attitude among the neighborhood. Perhaps it’s all of the higher learning taking place nearby, but the inquisitive nature permeates. And each new season brings fresh delight and a different energy to the neighborhood, from the colorful autumn foliage to the peaceful snow swirls of winter.
Exploring Montana: Missoula Area State Parks
This is the 3rd in a series of videos we'll be releasing about a 2-week trip to explore areas of Montana that we've either never seen, or have only driven through in the past. Our hope is to explore as many of Montana's State Parks as we can. For 2 weeks our home was our 2019 Outdoors RV 20FQ travel trailer, towed by our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. Join us for a tour of the Treasure State.
Today we visit a few of the state parks in the Missoula area: Council Grove, Frenchtown Pond, and Milltown. Council Grove is the site of the signing of the Hellgate Treaty of 1855 between the US Government and the native tribes of NW Montana. Frenchtown Pond doesn't have much history, but is a nice site for a picnic and/or fishing, along with a pretty extensive playground. We didn't spend much time there. Milltown is the site of the historic Milltown dam that was dismantled and the entire area revamped after being a Superfund site. Join us as we explore these (for the most part) historic parks.

Diversity at University of Montana and in the Community
One of the university's goals is to promote diversity and equality on campus and in the community.
Diverse U coordinator Joseph Grady says UM's annual event is aimed at starting a dialog among students and community members.
He says the best way to do that is through in-person conversations.
“What we are trying to do here is get people away from the computer screen and to engage personally. Looking at each other and saying, you know, I think we all need a place to land, I think change is going to be possible we have to be willing to sit down and have that face to face dialog and be willing to be uncomfortable”
Grady says some Missoula businesses help continue the conversation off campus by hosting community discussions.
