The City of San Antonio, Texas (The Alamo) 2019
San Antonio, officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh-most populous city in the United States, and the second-most populous city in both Texas and the Southern United States, with more than 1.5 million residents. Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city became the first chartered civil settlement in present-day Texas in 1731. The area was still part of the Spanish Empire, and later of the Mexican Republic. Today it is the state's oldest municipality.

The Cenotaph Memorial To The Alamo Defenders In Downtown San Antonio TX
The Cenotaph sits on Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio TX on land adjacent to the legendary Alamo itself. It's an area where some of the battle of the Alamo actually took place in 1836.
Titled The Spirit of Sacrifice, the Cenotaph (or empty tomb) was created by sculptor
Pompeo Coppini from a design envisioned by architect Carlton Adams. Begun in 1937,
the Cenotaph took two years to complete and is itself now a historical treasure.
This is the traditional place where it's believed the slain defenders of the Alamo were piled after the battle and burned in great funeral pyres.
The Alamo Cenotaph is formed Georgia marble and stands on a base of pink Texas granite - the same kind used to build the iconic state capitol in Austin.
Carvings of some of the Alamo defenders appear on the walls, including depictions of William B. Travis, Jim Bowie, David Crockett and James B. Bonham. The
monument also bears the names of men who died at the Alamo.
In addition, there's the following inscription::
Erected in Memory of the Heroes who sacrificed their lives at the Alamo, March 6, 1836 in the defense of Texas, 'They chose never to surrender nor retreat, these brave hearts with flag still proudly waving perished in the flames of immortality that their high sacrifice might lead to the founding on this Texas.'

San Antonio landmarks
San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas. As the gatekeeper to the Rio Grande Valley, Hwy 10 and Hwy 35 carve a giant X across the face of the city.
With a population almost topping 1.4 million, you would expect San Antonio to be aloof, haughty and spoiled. Not the case! This friendly metropolis welcomes visitors with offerings of activities to please the most discriminating tastes.
Visit the historic Alamo, walk along the famous River Walk, stroll HemisFair Park and shop at the booths at Market Square.
Getting around is easy and inexpensive with the Via Trolley or hop on one of the BCycles (bike share program) from one docking station to the next.
Food is remarkable. Dine at the famous Mi Tierra or go totally upscale at the Guenther House.
For adult beverages, check out Blue Star Brewing Company or head over to the old Pearl Brewery (closed in 2001) which now houses restaurants and a culinary institute.
Think about a visit to San Antonio when making plans for your next travel adventure.

Stunning Downtown Home Near Riverwalk/Alamo/Alamodome
VRBO Listing #450284
If you're interested in booking, please visit: vrbo.com/450284
Based on the extremely high popularity of our Ultra-Modern Home in downtown San Antonio (vrbo.com/423385), we would like to introduce its Feng Shui twin, located just 5 houses down the street! When we say 'twin', we mean 'twin'! It is literally the exact same floor plan, just reversed. The best part is still the location. This house is located 5 houses closer (and sits on a corner lot) to the River Walk, Alamo, Alamo Dome, and River Center Mall, which are all less than ½ mile away. Because the Alamo Dome literally sits across the street, the views are spectacular, especially at night. Visualize the Alamo Dome, with the Tower of the America's standing tall right behind it, then look to your right and see the downtown San Antonio skyline. If you're visiting San Antonio to check out the downtown area, there's no need to look any further. Why stay 30 minutes away when you're within walking distance of all the major downtown San Antonio attractions? For the same price (or less) as a hotel room, you can stay in this spacious 2-story, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home which features a detached garage, brand new stainless steel appliances, elevated ceilings, flat screen TV's, DVD players, and a great view of downtown. We're located one block from the AlamoDome, and ½ mile from the River Walk, Convention Center, River Center Mall, Hemisphere Park, and Alamo. Sunset Station is just a few blocks from this gem and features fun night life at various bars, as well as fine dining at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. In the evening, enjoy drinks (from your fully equipped kitchen) on the back patio and take in the stunning views of the Tower of the Americas and the Alamo Dome. If you have children who like to play in the yard, our home includes a large, fenced in backyard which is very rare in downtown San Antonio. While 423385 sports an ultra-modern theme, this home feels very calm and peaceful...very Feng Shui. The palm trees in the living room will catch your eye as soon as you walk in the front door, then you'll see the super comfortable couch, flat-screen TV, and 'calming' décor. Walk into the open living room and turn toward the kitchen, which sports brand new stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and beautiful cabinets. We own multiple properties, and this is definitely one of the coolest. Everything in the home (appliances, furniture, flooring, paint) is brand new. Sleeping arrangements include a queen in the master, full in bedroom 2, a twin and bunk bed (sleeps 3) in bedrooms 3. The master bedroom boasts en suite, and the additional full bathroom accommodates the second and third bedrooms. There is also a ½ bath downstairs. Since you'll be staying downtown, you've very close to everything San Antonio has to offer: Sea World (15 min), Six Flag (15 min), The Quarry (8 min), Zoo (7 min), Botanical Gardens (7 min), AT&T Center (7 min), and of course all of the famous downtown activities: the Market, Alamo, River Walk, trolley tours, and more! Other home amenities include washer & dryer, single detached garage, free wireless internet, 2 DVD players, TV's, stainless steel propane grill, stainless steel kitchen appliances, outdoor furniture, and much more!

San Antonio to Shreveport: Alamo, Riverwalk & State #23 (Day 288 - 8.15.2015)

Locations: San Antonio, Texas and Shreveport, Louisana
Today's vlog starts off with me waking up on super short sleep. My body just decided to wake up at 6:15 local time which is effectively 4:15 Pacific which is where my body still is. I begin to do the vlog editing and get into my normal rhythm of checking out of a hotel room and then heading to the Apple Store. This one was in the North Star Mall.
After a longer than normal upload I bought a vent clip for my iPhone since I had been storing it in the vent for the past couple of months to keep the phone cool because it gets super hot while charging. It took 5 seconds to install and it quickly became clear that this is something I should have done right after I started storing it there. Oh well, live and learn.
I start the drive to Shreveport and end up finding a new artist that I wanted to hear more from so I decided to throw you guys in to time lapse. During that time I finally came up with an answer to the question What would you do if you never had to work again? As soon as I came to that answer I got an incredible sense of calm.
Making more miles across eastern Texas I decided to stop for lunch at the Pint and Barrel Drafthouse in Palestine, Texas where I a great but huge pulled pork sandwich and had a great conversation with Katie, the bartender there.
I got back on the road to make up the last 120 miles and ended up making a wrong turn that took me down to a beautiful lake. Once I got back to the highway it was smooth sailing through an amazing part of east Texas. I crossed into Louisiana and was super depressed there wasn't a sign and as I exited the first town I encountered there it was a Welcome to Louisiana sign! That makes it state # 23 in the mission to get all 48.
Got to the hotel and after 7.5 hours of driving on short sleep I ended the vlog so I could do the edit and upload overnight.

San Jacinto Monument, Battleship Texas, and Downtown Houston Drive Through
Houston is the fourth largest city (in terms of population) in the United States, and there is plenty to explore. There is so much to see that I will need to make many trips in the future to see everything. On this trip, I head down to the San Jacinto Monument and to Battleship Texas. I check out both although it was hard to see the top of the monument due to the low clouds and fog. The monument is a dedication to the Battle of San Jacinto back on April 21, 1836 which the outnumbered Texian Army led by General Sam Houston defeated the Mexican army and forced then-Mexican president Santa Anna to sign an independence treaty which led to the creation of the Republic of Texas. However, Texas would be later admitted to the United States in 1845. After visiting both places, I take a drive through downtown Houston.

San Antonio - City Video Guide
San Antonio, in Texas, is close to the Mexican border. Old Spanish missions surround this river settlement. About 28 million people visit San Antonio each year to experience its Latin-style atmosphere. The main attractions are the famous Riverwalk and historically significant Alamo fortress, a symbol of proud defiance.
The old town, with its winding paths and arched bridges, is best explored on foot. Watertaxis, vintage buses and trolleys also shuttle visitors around. San Antonio's constant buzz is best enjoyed in lively hubs such as La Villita and Market Square. Bands often play at riverside amphitheaters and restaurants.
The dwellings in the Institute Of Texan Cultures provide a glimpse of early life in the Southwest. Those keen to see history through the eyes of artists should browse the San Antonio Museum of Art. Find more art in the Witte Museum, in Brackenridge Park, which also has a children's playground. Kids will also love the nearby San Antonio Zoo.
Some of San Antonio's most-visited parks are the Natural Bridge Caverns, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, the Botanical Gardens and Japanese Tea Gardens.
The views from the Tower Of The Americas are best when San Antonio's sparkling lights stretch out under the night's sky.
