Big Bend National Park, Rio Grand Village, Hot Springs, Boquillas Canyon
We spent two wonderful weeks in late 2017 traveling around west Texas and visiting a number of great parks and campgrounds. In this video we tour the Eastern side of Big Bend National Park and visit the primary points of interest in this part of Big Bend National Park. The high light of this part of our visit to Big Bend National Park was the drive into and out of the Hot Springs.

360° Boquillas Canyon Trail in Big Bend NP
360° view along Boquillas Canyon Trail in Big Bend National Park, Texas, June 2012. Beautiful scenery and atmosphere in this canyon of the Rio Grande Valley (the side I am standing on is the U.S., the other is Mexico). This is also where I saw my first Canyon Wren (Catherpes mexicanus).
Texas hot springs, Big bend National Park
Big Bend National Park 2019 Boquillas Hot Springs Canyon Trail. The trail goes up and down over several ridges from the Rio Grande Village area to the Hot Springs. Start out early as it can be very hot with the sun reflecting off the rocks. Hike the 6-miles roundtrip, a beautiful hike, steep at first. Coming from RGV, the scenery is more beautiful after the first half of the trail when the Rio Grande becomes more visible. There is an option of driving close via Hot Springs Road and then a short walk there.... don't do it, take the hike. The experience of the hot springs is enhanced after you've earned it (via a fairly difficult and gorgeous 3 mile hike.

Boquillas Canyon Ride May 2019
Boquillas Canyon is the easternmost of the 3 main
narrows sections along the Rio Grande
within Big Bend National Park. There is a rich history
surrounding the Boquillas Villagers and how they got their
goods into the United States. Currently, you will find
For Sale goods placed on LARGE ROCKS between
the US and Mexico border. Visitors to the park practice the
honor system system by leaving money for the goods in a jar
and take the hand made goods as a gift or souviner.

Dog Canyon Trail - Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA
An easy trail leading to a small gully and canyon. You can park on the side of the road in the designated area. The marker at the beginning of the trail says it is 1.9 miles to the canyon, so out and back should be around 3.8 miles.
Much of the trail crosses scrub, sand, and river bottom, and is marked by cairns. There isn't much shade as there are very few trees along the trail. Make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat.
