Veteran Seattle Fish Monger Paula Cassidy of Wild Salmon Seafood Mkt, Fishermen's Terminal, Seattle
Paula Cassidy talks a great piece of fish at the Highliner Pub and Grill at Fishermens Terminal in Seattle.
Puget Sound commercial fishermen have witnessed drastic changes in the Northwest seafood industry that have directly affected their livelihood. In the past decade, some wild salmon stocks have been listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Conversely, some runs are flourishing, and yet market opportunities for these products are limited. Habitat protection and other management measures have already begun to restore salmon runs, but Puget Sound fishermen continue to struggle today with low prices and lack of local markets.
The Puget Sound Salmon Commission started the Sound Catch™ program to address these challenges. The program encourages fishermen to produce high quality salmon from sustainable Puget Sound runs and offer it directly to consumers and the market. By taking on more levels of distribution themselves, fishermen are able to offer premium salmon at fair prices to all. The Sound Catch program opens up new opportunities for our local fishing families and ensures the availability of locally produced salmon in the Puget Sound region.
HI SEATTLE American Hotel HOSTEL - Single Room Review
Review of a private single room at the Hostelling International American Hotel Hostel in Seattle, Washington.
The hostel is located at 520 S. King Street right across from the Union Square train station. I ended up paying $195 for two nights which is good for Seattle.
If you book a single room you have it to yourself with no roommates. There was a set of bunk beds in the room, a sink, a desk, and 3 lockers.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is taking a short trip to Seattle and is just looking for a cheap room to rent.

One at a time through Ballard Locks - Seattle, Washington
We arrived just in time to see pleasure boats rise to the occasion. The official name is Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, but is known locally as the Ballard Locks after the neighborhood to the north. The locks can elevate a 760-foot by 80-foot wide vessel 26 feet, from the level of Puget Sound at a very low tide to the level of freshwater Salmon Bay, in 10--15 minutes. The locks handle both pleasure boats and commercial vessels, ranging from kayaks to fishing boats returning from the Bering Sea to cargo ships. Over 1 million tons of cargo, fuel, building materials, and seafood products pass through the locks each year.

Walking to the Hosteling International hostel at the American Hotel in Seattle
When you fly into Seattle (Seatac Airport) you can take the light rail to the International District Station (about 30 minutes) and walk less than one block to the HI hostel at the American Hotel. The video starts right where you would get off the light rail coming in from the airport. We'll turn left as you exit the light rail, walk up the stairs or escalator, turn around and walk a very short distance to S. King St. turn left under the arch and 1/2 block to the hostel. Lets go see what it looks like.

Seattle Center Armory - A Place of Evolution
The stately building, named Seattle Center Armory, continues to serve generations of visitors -- updating its physical space and peeling back the thick Armory walls to reveal its historic roots. The Seattle Field Artillery Armory, built in 1939, has stood the test of time, evolving over the many years as a community gathering place and affordable family destination. Originaly built in 1939 as the old Armory Building. It housed the 146th Field Artillery and its half-ton tanks. The basement of the Armory still has markings from the old firing range and an unfinished swimming pool intended for the recruits. In 1941, Duke Ellington played on stage for the University of Washington's Junior Prom.
For the 1962 World's Fair, the Armory was reconfigured into the first vertical shopping mall, called the Food Circus. It just pre-dated Northgate Mall, which was the first indoor mall in the United States. In the early 1970’s, the Food Circus was renamed Center House after some minor renovations. In 1985, the Seattle Children's Museum moved into the first floor of the building and expanded their space in 1995, building a giant toy mountain for the newly created Kenneth and Maureen Alhadeff Exhibit Center. At the same time, Center House was renovated and reconfigured to emphasize public programming, such as signature events, free family entertainment and cultural festivals. In December 2000, the Kennedy Center designated the Center House Stage as an Imagination Celebration National Site, only the fifth location in the nation to be designated. Today, over 3,000 free public performances occur in Seattle Center Armory each year.

Seattle is a coastal seaport city and the seat of King County, in the U.S. state of Washington. With an estimated 668,342 residents as of 2014, Seattle is the largest city in both the State of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America and, as of July 2013, is the fastest-growing major city in the United States.[5] The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6 million inhabitants is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States.[6] The city is situated on a narrow isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada–United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the 8th largest port in the United States and 9th largest in North America in terms of container handling. The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers. Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to its current site and named Seattle in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. Logging was Seattle's first major industry, but by the late 19th century the city had become a commercial and shipbuilding center as a gateway to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. By 1910, Seattle was one of the 25 largest cities in the country. However, the Great Depression severely damaged the city's economy. Growth returned during and after World War II, due partially to the local Boeing company, which established Seattle as a center for aircraft manufacturing. The city developed as a technology center in the 1980s, with companies like Amazon.com, Microsoft, and T-Mobile US based in the area. The stream of new software, biotechnology, and Internet companies led to an economic revival, which increased the city's population by almost 50,000 between 1990 and 2000.
Seattle has a noteworthy musical history. From 1918 to 1951, there were nearly two dozen jazz nightclubs along Jackson Street, from the current Chinatown/International District, to the Central District. The jazz scene developed the early careers of Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Ernestine Anderson and others. Seattle is also the birthplace of rock musician Jimi Hendrix and the alternative rock style grunge.
