DEAD MALL: The Centre of Tallahassee (Tallahassee Mall)
Video tour of the Centre of Tallahassee, formerly called the Tallahassee Mall.
Opened in 1971, the Tallahassee Mall was anchored by Woolco, Gayfers, and Montgomery Ward. Woolco closed in 1983 and was replaced by Zayre, which later became Ames. In 1992, a new wing was added with a fourth anchor store, Parisian. The Montgomery Ward store was bisected to connect the new wing to the mall. Kmart was planned to move into the former Ames store. Service Merchandise opened in 1995. Also in 1995, mall occupancy was only at forty-five percent. A twenty-screen AMC Theater was added to the Parisian wing in 1996. Gayfers became Dillard's in 1998. Service Merchandise closed in 1999 and Montgomery Ward closed in 2000. The former Service Merchandise store was split between Shoe Carnival and Ross Dress for Less, and the former Montgomery Ward became Burlington Coat Factory. Parisian was renamed Belk in 2007, and Dillard's closed in 2008. The mall was partially demolished with part becoming an open-air center and the name of the mall was changed to The Centre of Tallahassee in 2014. The mall is currently anchored by AMC Theaters, Belk, Burlington Coat Factory, and Ross Dress for Less. Many vacancies remain in both the indoor and the outdoor sections of the mall.
Disclaimer: This video was recorded on a Friday night, so most of the people seen are going to the AMC Theater inside the mall.

At Mall In Florida, Centre of Tallahassee
Found from one of the store owners that they just found out 5 days ago they have to leave. The mall is being turned into state offices. That's why the mall is so empty. The movie theater will stay though.

Governor's Square
Governor's Square is a super-regional shopping mall located on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, Florida. Its two-level design was a first for northern Florida when it opened in 1979, and it remains the newest of two enclosed malls in the Tallahassee area, the other being Tallahassee Mall. Its anchors are Sears, JCPenney, Dillard's, and Macy's. Chicago, Illinois-based General Growth Properties owns and manages Governor's Square.
Built into a hillside, the mall can be entered either on the first or second level, depending on where a particular entrance is located. The mall's original anchors, JCPenney, Sears and Maas Brothers, anchored the original structure. Maas Brothers was converted to Burdines in 1991. A 1993 expansion included an additional wing as well as Dillard's becoming the fourth anchor. Over the course of 2004 and 2005, the Burdines store was converted to a Macy's.
