Goodwood Museum and Gardens, FL
MC Travelers stopped in Tallahassee, Florida and visited a old plantation house called Goodwood. Goodwood Plantation has tours that take you through the house and it's history. Unfortunately they don't allow photography inside the main house, so you'll have to come and explore it for yourself. You can also explore the grounds to read and learn about the different aspects of the houses and buildings, and there you can take pictures!

St. Augustine, Florida, United States 1 - The Oldest House
St Augustine (Saint Augustine, Spanish San Augustin), Florida, United States 2002 - the Oldest house Gonzales - Alvarez
St. Augustine was founded on September 8, 1565, by Spanish admiral and Florida's first governor, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. He named the settlement San Agustín, as his ships bearing settlers, troops, and supplies from Spain had first sighted land in Florida on August 28, 1565, the feast day of St. Augustine. The city served as the capital of Spanish Florida for over 200 years, and remained the capital of East Florida when the territory briefly changed hands between Spain and Britain. It was designated the capital of the Florida Territory until Tallahassee was made the capital in 1824. Since the late 19th century, St. Augustine's distinct historical character has made the city a major tourist attraction. It is also the headquarters for the Florida National Guard.

Guns for sale - inside an American gun show - BBC News
President Obama is to unveil controversial plans to introduce new gun controls in the US. The president had previously admitted that his lack of progress on the issue had been one of the greatest regrets of his presidency. The new measures would include tighter background checks, and tackling a current loophole which allows firearms to bought without checks at gun shows.
Jon Sopel reports.

Riley House Blended Lives
The Blended Lives program, which annually kicks off Black History Month, is a joint, weeklong program of the Riley House museum of black history and Goodwood Museum and Gardens.
Today through Friday, Leon County fourth-graders will attend events at both facilities, aimed at introducing them to local history involving blacks and whites. This year's theme is Reconstruction.
The program was begun in 2001 by Althemese Barnes, executive director of the Riley House, and Larry Paarlberg, former director of Goodwood.
I think it's important at the grade level we tap that young people begin to experience and know about history and what came before them, Barnes said. The blended history (of whites and blacks) is an important piece. It is the sharing of history and the resources and all that it takes to make it happen.
The event annually also includes an adult symposium such as Tuesday's roundtable discussion about numerous issues connected with Reconstruction. The panelists will be Titus Brown, a Florida A&M history professor; Pete Cowdrey, educator in residence at the Museum of Florida History; Reginald Ellis, FAMU professor of history and Jonathan Grandage, historian at the Florida State Archives. The discussion will include input from the audience.
Scenes of the Everglades by Homer Augustus Brinkley (1928)
These are excerpts of an original film produced by businessman and adventurer Homer Augustus Brinkley in 1928 to illustrate the exotic environment found in the Everglades. Brinkley lived among the Seminole Indians for a few months. He later used the film in a traveling show that included a live caged bear and himself dressed as a Seminole Indian. Photographed by William B. Feeland, the film contains some of the earliest moving footage of Seminole Indians. First, Seminole men and women are shown playing the ball game with handmade sticks in an open field in the Everglades. After the game, a close-up of the winners of the game is shown, as well as a closer view of the sticks used in the game. Next, Seminole men, women, and children perform a circular group dance around a fire. The Buffalo Dance is one of four Seminole dances included in the entire Brinkley film. A Seminole man poles a dugout canoe with a woman and two children along a waterway in the Everglades. Then in a segment titled returning from the hunt, the man, woman, and children are seen returning to camp after a hunting trip, and the man is carrying the game they killed. A black bear cub is shown climbing a cabbage palm, as well as landscape scenes of the grasslands and forests of the Everglades. In the last segment, titled a grove of wild oranges amidst moss-draped oaks, the dense trees of an Everglades hammock are shown, including wild orange trees.
