Alcove Spring Trail (Canyonlands National Park)
July 7-9, 2015. Canyonlands National Park, Utah.
I went through Utah in July 2015, and visited all 5 of its National Parks. All of the parks were unique and amazing...
But this place especially, combined with the weather, was the most memorable time of my 5-week multi-state road trip.

Alcove Spring Trail - Backpacking at Canyonlands NP
Alcove Spring Trail descends about a thousand feet off the Island in the Sky mesa top in Canyonlands National Park. At the bottom of the canyon the trail follows the wash north toward Taylor Canyon. We camped one night in April at the upper (south) end known as Trail Canyon. Backcountry permits are required for overnight camping in the area.

Neck Springs Canyon Hike
Neck Springs Canyon Hike Sept 9, 2017
Hi! Thanks for watching our video. We hope you enjoy it. It's still pretty warm here in the desert and we are so happy that today is officially the first day of Autumn.
Micah and I joke that in the middle of the summer when it's 110 degrees outside, it's easy to imagine that Autumn will never arrive. But it seems every year we get a few big storms in September that leave a light blanket of snow in the mountains. When this happens, we breathe a huge sigh of relief. The brutal desert summer is nearly over.
Micah is going to be heading into the mountains tomorrow to film and I promise I will have the video out faster this time. Thank you, everyone, for your patients. You guys are awesome.
Love,
Season

Upheaval Canyon Backpacking
In the northwest corner of Canyonlands National Park is Upheaval Canyon, the drainage from the Upheaval Dome area to Green River. I hiked in on the Syncline Loop Trail and camped two nights at the Syncline backcountry campsite (permit required). The objective was to hike to the White Rim Road and Green River via Upheaval Canyon Trail but I didn't quite reach the river. The wide flat area near the river is known as Upheaval Bottom.

WHY VISIT CANYONLANDS?
Canyonlands National Park is one of the famous 5 National Parks in the state of Utah. It’s a vast canyon system cut by two majestic rivers, the Green and Colorado. If you are lucky to visit the park when fog or clouds fill the canyon you will glimpse one of the park's most breathtaking moments, when all is covered in a carpet of white clouds leaving only the plateaus rising above their fluffy tops. From this phenomenon comes one reason for Canyonlands nickname of Islands in the Sky.
The shear size of Canyonlands provides enough hiking trails and places to explore to keep you busy for a lifetime. One of the best Canyonlands hikes is the Wilhite Trail. This primitive trail is perfect for anyone wanting to get away from the crowds and experience the park in it’s natural state. You need to be good at following trails marked with cairns as the trail is not maintained and one could easily end up off trail if they are not observant.
HIKING THE WILHITE TRAIL.
On our hike of the Wilhite Trail we only saw one other person return to their car just we were leaving our car at the trail-head. For the next three and half hours we had the whole area to ourselves.
A pleasant breeze followed us. Playful birds chirped and sang their melodious tunes. After a quarter mile we crested a rise that had been blocking our view of the spidery depths of Canyonlands. Wow escaped our vocal cords multiple times at the sight. This is an ideal location for jumping pictures!
From there we followed each successive cairn and eventually arrived at the steep Wilhite Canyon rock fall, where the trail descends from the top plateau down to the first tiered level of the park. It is here where this episode of We See Here was inspired.
You can take the Wilhite Trail all the way down the the white Rim Road to a slot canyon that ends in a spillway that plummets to the Green River. We will have to return to complete the trail. We only got down the rock fall and around the point before we had to turn back. However our timing put us back at the plateau crest for one of the most stunning sunsets we’ve seen. It was like fire one the plateau, with rays of sunlight shooting through gaps in the clouds to touch the sprawling canyons below. It was a perfect way to end our hike.
MYSTERIOUS ECHOES OF THE PAST.
If one hollars into Wilhite Canyon and then listen closely you will here about five echos. Each one sounding further and further away as if time itself is warped and the people of the past are calling to you. Remember if you do this when a black crow flies over the canyon you will be cursed with slow speech. But if you send your echo a flying as a hawk flies over the canyon you will be blessed with the eloquence of your ancestors.
WE SEE HERE TRIVIA.
That hat. Oh my goodness. It is an iconic part of We See Here. The only reason it is so often used is because it was on my head when the very first We See Here video was filmed on the Inca Trail. My wife hates it. I have to smuggle it onto hikes just to use it. It was bartered for and purchased in Cusco, Peru the night before setting out to backpack the Inca Trail.

We hiked from the Elephant Hill Trailhead to Chesler Park Viewpoint in Canyonlands National Park (The Needles), Utah. Give the video a thumbs up, leave a comment and share it with your friends and family ???? See more family travels on YouTube:
Canyonlands National Park is divided into three districts: Island in the Sky, The Needles and The Maze. This hike is in The Needles district, about one hour twenty South of Moab, UT. While Island in the Sky has amazing views on canyons, The Needles is a paradise for hikers with trails for short and long day hikes as well as overnight trips. This hike was about 6 miles.
