Devil's Den Grand Opening // Riding The Newest MTB Trail in San Antonio
How often do you get the opportunity to be one of the first mountain bikers to ride a brand new trail? This weekend I got that opportunity thanks to the South Texas Off-road Mountain bikers (S.T.O.R.M), REI, the Roadrunners and volunteers in the mountain biking community. After, years in the making, this new section of trails on the Leon Creek Greenway is finally open for shredding. Here's a look at what you can expect to see when visiting these trails just north of O.P. Schnabel. Thanks for watching! Don't forget to like and sub!

A short look through O.P. Schnabel Park. Located off of Bandera Road at Braun Road, the park offers hiking trails, the Braundera YMCA, baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, a pavilion for gatherings, and plenty of nature.

700 Acres is a Hidden Gem
Today we’re checking out a super-secret trail system simply known as “that place” built by a local group of riders for no other reason than the love of mountain biking. I was invited out by Adrian; the man leading the charge on bringing this place to life, and as you can see he’s already got new features waiting in his garage. Adrian and fellow trail builder/shredder Andre took us on a quick tour and almost immediately I knew we were in for a wild ride. With wooden features, steep descents, perfectly manicured jumps, flowy berms, nerve racking gaps, and beautifully shaded landscape, you almost forget you’re in Texas. To say they’ve created some variety here is a huge understatement. It even had a good amount of climbs. Some of which had me walking. Adrian told me he wanted this place to be all about rider progression, and I think he’s designed the perfect place for that. After one session with a group of awesome riders at this place I was trying things I typically wouldn’t. I took a stab at the tator totter, tried some jumps, cleared a creek jump, did this sizeable gap jump called Sally, and even attempted this drop which so perfectly states on the wood “but did you die?” Almost…but I managed to save it.
Towards the top of the hill they have 3 downhill lines that I didn’t plan on attempting, but after some words of encouragement I decided to try “perdiendo dientes”. After 3 not so graceful attempts I decided to leave this to Andre and I’ll revisit it later. Pull and pray however was less treacherous and an awesome descent.
While there is tons more to explore here and they are always adding something new, I hope this video showcases some of the great progress being made here.
I always love a place where after one day of riding you leave feeling like you’ve improved, and this is one of those places….that place if you will. While I won’t reveal its location just yet, I really think this is one of the best and most diverse places to ride in San Antonio
Huge thank you to Adrian for the invite and to the South Texas Trail Demons for all your amazing work out here. You were all very hospitable and helped me progress as a rider in just a few hours.

Govt Canyon, San Antonio Texas MTB
This was my 3rd time being here, the 1st time I had just started riding about two weeks before, I gave it a try on my HT. 2nd time I had double the amount of pressure in my fork so I rode it like rigid. So this time I was ready until my cassette gave me issues but it was the top 3 gears so I was good to go. Few of us decided to give Government Canyon a try and we had a blast. I hope you enjoy the video. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This video captured with a camera built into a pair of sunglasses. Very sneaky, and pretty good video for such a tiny lens opening.
