San Pedro Creek Culture Park Phase 1
Bexar County, Texas, the City of San Antonio - Municipal Government, and the San Antonio River Authority transformed a concrete-lined drainage ditch into the San Pedro Creek Culture Park, preserving significant areas of historical importance to the earliest settlement of San Antonio, while also serving a practical use as a flood management and water quality system for the San Pedro Creek. The environmental outcome is a natural habitat that is also recognized as a world-class park.

2016 Lone Star Land Steward: San Pedro Ranch - Texas Parks and Wildlife [Official]
South Texas: San Pedro Ranch
Dimmit and Maverick Counties, Texas
Fitzsimons and Howard Families, Owners
Chase Currie, Manager
Joseph Fitzsimons and his sister, Pamela Fitzsimons Howard, have owned the San Pedro Ranch in South Texas for 15 years, though the land has been in the family since 1932. The property, which sprawls across parts of Dimmit and Maverick counties, supports five different soil orders and 36 different plant communities and has been home to four distinct cultural groups over the years. Fitzsimons and Howard have implemented several wildlife habitat management techniques, including rotational grazing, prescribed burning, brush control, water systems, riparian restoration projects and aerial censuses of deer and quail populations. These practices have improved the native habitat, which has helped sustain diverse wildlife populations and a productive Beefmaster cattle herd.
The ranch is also home to a unique type of soil, called Antosa Bobillo, which is a deep, fine sand that supports grasses that are typically rare in South Texas. Fitzsimons and Howard have used geographic information system technology to map out this soil type’s presence on the property, designating the areas in which it exists “no-disturbance zones” to help preserve this unique plant community.

Archers Ready!....... In Texas? Comanche Lookout Park, San Antonio TX
A Castle? In Texas? Yessir.... This beautiful piece of local architecture was built in the 1920's by a man who owned this particular piece of land. Why? Apparently because he just felt like building one! This area is now a park in San Antonio, Tx called Comanche Lookout. The Comanche, and other tribes, would use the high elevation here as a lookout point.... long before this tower was built. Urban legend also says the area is haunted. The Old Camino Real, which was the original road into San Antonio way back in the day, runs directly in front of the hill. Davy Crockett himself, along with his band of volunteers would have traveled this road en route to The Alamo.
