Bellevue is a city in the Eastside region of King County, Washington, United States, across Lake Washington from Seattle. As the third-largest city in the Seattle metropolitan area, Bellevue has variously been characterized as an edge city, a suburb, boomburb, or satellite city. Its population was 122,363 at the 2010 census and 147,599 in a 2018 census estimate.
As of 2019, the city promotes itself as a diverse, global city at the heart of Seattle's Eastside, and home to some of the world's most innovative technology companies. Prior to 2008, downtown Bellevue underwent rapid change, with many high-rise projects under construction, and was relatively unaffected by the economic downturn. The downtown area is currently the second-largest city center in Washington state, with 1,300 businesses, 45,000 employees, and 10,200 residents. Based on per capita income, Bellevue is the sixth-wealthiest of 522 communities in the state of Washington. Bellevue is the site of the popular annual Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair (originally Pacific Northwest Arts and Crafts Fair), held since 1947 the last weekend in July. The biennial Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition draws thousands of visitors to the Downtown Park to view up to 46 three-dimensional artworks from artists around the country. In celebration of its strawberry farming history, Bellevue holds an annual Strawberry Festival on the fourth weekend in June at Crossroads Park. The festival initially began in 1925, and continued to 1942 when many Bellevue's strawberry farmers were incarcerated as part of the Japanese Internment. In 1987 the festival was resumed as a one evening event, and in 2003 it was expanded back to a multi-day festival.

The Bellevue Arts Museum first opened in 1975, then moved to Bellevue Square in 1983. In 2001, the museum moved into its own building, designed by Steven Holl. The museum subsequently ran into financial difficulties and was forced to close to the public in 2003. After a lengthy fundraising campaign, a remodel, and a new mission to become a national center for the fine art of craft and design, the museum reopened on June 18, 2005 with an exhibition of teapots. The Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art - now closed - contained one of the largest doll collections in the world—more than a thousand dolls—displayed on two floors of a Victorian-style building, which is now the site of the KidsQuest Children's Museum. Near Interstate 405 is Meydenbauer Center, a convention center that brings corporate meetings and charity events to the downtown area. Meydenbauer also includes a 410-seat theater which attracts operas, ballets, and orchestral performances.
The city government has planned to build a performing arts center, tentatively named the Tateuchi Center (named for philanthropist Ina Tateuchi), since the 1980s. It would include a 2,000-seat concert hall, offices, and creative spaces at a site in Downtown Bellevue. The $200 million project is partially funded with private donations and grants from the city and county governments.

More than 5,500 Bellevue residents participate in volunteer activities through this department annually.

Bellingham Washington is known as one of Washington's most livable small cities. Located close to the Canadian border has made Bellingham WA is also popular with Canadian shoppers and day trippers from Vancouver and southern British Columbia.
The city of Bellingham WA has been placed on a number of national best places to live lists and its easy to see why. Bellingham has a wealth of outdoor recreational activities right at its doorstep from skiing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing in freshwater and saltwater, and much more.
The city of Bellingham's Squalicum Harbor is home to a fleet of commercial fishing boats, private yachts, Whale Watching excursion boats. Due to Bellingham's close proximity to the San Juan Islands it also hosts a substantial fleet of charter boats and yacht.
The city of Bellingham has been given a rare opportunity to redevelop a large portion of its waterfront due to the closure of a large paper products factory owned by Georgia Pacific. The large tract of land once owned by paper products giant has been donated to the city of Bellingham. The city lost a major employer but it gained what could be one of Washington State's most amazing new waterfront developments--that is if you could get people to agree on what to do with it.

Pike Place Market
This historic, beloved downtown public market has been in business since 1907. It’s a year-round farmers market and a visual riot of vegetable, seafood, cheese and flower stalls along with handicrafts and tourist-friendly knickknacks. And, of course, the flying fish. Vendors at Pike Place Fish Market gleefully toss salmon to each other and crack jokes, always drawing a crowd at the fish stall by the market’s main entrance.

Space Needle
This vertical icon of the city is so kitschy it’s become cool, and it gives a great view of the city from the top. Built for the 1962 World’s Fair, it’s 605 feet tall and looks like a spaceship on stilts, towering over Seattle Center (seattlecenter.com), a cultural complex where you could easily spend hours at the Pacific Science Center, Chihuly glass display, food court, theatres or simply watching kids frolic in a giant outdoor fountain.

Washington State Ferries
Ferries shuttle all around Puget Sound and they’re a key, and the prettiest, part of Washington’s transportation system. You can have a fun, quick and cheap sightseeing boat ride as a walk-on passenger (adult fare is $7.70 round trip) on the Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry. If it’s clear, you’ll even see 14,410-foot Mount Rainier looming to the south on the 35-minute ride. “The Mountain,” as locals call it, really does exist, although it’s often shrouded in clouds.
Board the ferry at Pier 52 on the downtown Seattle waterfront, get off at Bainbridge and walk into the friendly little town of Winslow — its restaurants, cafes and shops are a 10-minute walk from the ferry landing on the main drag of Winslow Way.

This museum doesn’t have the most enticing name (although it’s known locally as MOHAI, which at least is shorter). But don’t miss it. MOHAI reopened in late 2012, with new galleries and multimedia displays, in a new location in Lake Union Park at the north edge of downtown. Its exhibits on life in Seattle and Puget Sound cover everything from the maritime past to cutting-edge culture. (Adult admission is $14.)
Stop at the Seattle Aquarium to see what lives in (and beyond) the local waters (adult admission, $19.95). Ride the Seattle Great Wheel, a 175-foot tall Ferris wheel with enclosed gondola-type cabins, for a view from on high of the city, Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains to the west (adult ticket $13).

Ballard Locks
See the essence of the Pacific Northwest at the Ballard Locks, where you can watch salmon and boats — from fishing boats and tugs to kayaks and yachts. The locks carry boats up and down, letting them travel between Puget Sound and Seattle’s freshwater waterways (about 20 feet above sea level). A fish ladder lets salmon swim up past the locks to their freshwater spawning grounds; glass viewing windows let people watch them.

Boeing tour
See Boeing‘s “Future of Flight” exhibits (and design your own jet digitally) and see jets being made inside the Boeing factory, about 25 miles north of Seattle in Everett. The Boeing plant is the biggest building by volume in the world — 472,000,000 cubic feet — and holds the production lines for various Boeing jets, including the 787 Dreamliner. Adult admission for the exhibits and 90-minute guided tour is $18. (Children must be at least four feet tall to join the tour.)

Ever since I learned that we are the only developed nation in the world without a paid family leave policy, I have been talking to everyone who will listen! I figured why not get up in front of 100s of people to spread the word?
This Ignite talk was a part of my thesis on building support for a paid family leave policy here in Washington State. I interviewed working moms around Seattle who work in all types of professions to hear about their experiences returning to work after child birth. I share some of their stories, which demonstrate a clear need for support during this transition in order to ensure that all children receive the care they need during the first 1,000 days of life.

Bellevue is a city in the Eastside region of King County, Washington, United States, across Lake Washington from Seattle. As the third-largest city in the Seattle metropolitan area, Bellevue has variously been characterized as an edge city, a suburb, boomburb, or satellite city. Its population was 122,363 at the 2010 census and 147,599 in a 2018 census estimate.
As of 2019, the city promotes itself as a diverse, global city at the heart of Seattle's Eastside, and home to some of the world's most innovative technology companies. The Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art - now closed - contained one of the largest doll collections in the world—more than a thousand dolls—displayed on two floors of a Victorian-style building, which is now the site of the KidsQuest Children's Museum. Near Interstate 405 is Meydenbauer Center, a convention center that brings corporate meetings and charity events to the downtown area. Meydenbauer also includes a 410-seat theater which attracts operas, ballets, and orchestral performances.
The city government has planned to build a performing arts center, tentatively named the Tateuchi Center (named for philanthropist Ina Tateuchi), since the 1980s. It would include a 2,000-seat concert hall, offices, and creative spaces at a site in Downtown Bellevue. The $200 million project is partially funded with private donations and grants from the city and county governments.

Today, the Bellevue Parks and Community Services Department manages more than 2,500 acres (10 km2) of parks and open spaces, including the Downtown Park and the Bellevue Botanical Garden, as well as several playgrounds, beach parks, and trails. More than 5,500 Bellevue residents participate in volunteer activities through this department annually.
Bellevue was home to the American Basketball Association team, the Bellevue Blackhawks. The Blackhawks in 2005, despite being ranked 13th in the league, made it to the championship game in front of 15,000 fans in Little Rock, Arkansas. The team has been inactive since 2006.

Inmates Fold 1,000 Origami Cranes for Seattle’s Peace Festival
Inmate students at the Utah State Prison carefully folded 1,000 origami paper cranes, which will soon be on their way to decorate a display at Seattle’s Peace Park.
As part of an English class at the Utah State Prison’s Promontory Facility, teacher Leah Sharitt had her class read, “One Thousand Paper Cranes: The Story of Sadako and the Children's Peace Statue.” The book tells the story of Sadako Sasaki, who lived in Hiroshima at the time of the atomic bombing by the United States. Sadako was diagnosed with leukemia at age 12 and was given a year to live. After being diagnosed, she was inspired by a Japanese legend that a person who created a thousand origami cranes would be granted a wish. She began to fold a thousand paper cranes, with her wish being that she simply wanted to live. Using the story as inspiration, Sharitt encouraged the inmates to fold 1,000 paper cranes.
“I thought that the values and ideas in the story directly connected to the inmates,” said Sharitt. “In class we continually work on putting ourselves in other people’s shoes, so what a better way than with a young girl who has leukemia and is folding a thousand cranes to save her life.”
The students wrote a wish they wanted to come true on the wing of each crane they folded. One inmate wished for his mother to be free from cancer, another wrote that he wishes his child will be able to get to know him, while another simply stated that he wants to be addiction free.
“These real-world connections are what education is all about,” said Sharitt. “I am proud of the students for following through with the project, but I am even more proud for the emotional growth each has gained.”
Sharitt believes that when the inmates can connect their lives to something else and bridge the gap through education and therapy it heals and provides growth. This project was not only therapeutic but helped instill hope within the inmates.
The paper cranes will be going to the Peace Park in Seattle, WA where they will be displayed at a festival next spring on a statue of Sadako along with thousands of other cranes sent from all over the world.
