The Cariboo Road was a project initiated in 1860 by the Governor of the Colony of British Columbia, James Douglas. It was a feat of engineering stretching from Fort Yale to Barkerville in the Canadian province of British Columbia through extremely hazardous canyon territory in the Interior of B.C. Between the 1860s and the 1880s the Cariboo Road existed in three versions as a surveyed and constructed wagon road route.     Helmcken Falls is a 141 m waterfall on the Murtle River within Wells Gray Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. The protection of Helmcken Falls was one of the reasons for the creation of Wells Gray Provincial Park in 1939. Helmcken Falls is the fourth highest waterfall in Canada, measured by total straight drop without a break. Higher Canadian waterfalls are Hunlen Falls in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park, and Della Falls in Strathcona Provincial Park, all in British Columbia. There are six other waterfalls on the Murtle River, upstream from Helmcken Falls. The others are The Mushbowl, Dawson Falls, Majerus Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Meadow Falls and McDougall Falls.     David Shearing killed a family of six in August 1982 while they were camping in the Clearwater Valley near Wells Gray Provincial Park, about 120 kilometers north of Kamloops in British Columbia. The media coined the term Wells Gray Murders but the actual murder site was beside Fage Creek, 18 km north of Clearwater and 18 km south of the Wells Gray Park entrance on Clearwater Valley Road.
