Places of Resurrection - Ireland Tour May 2015

Hi there. I’m Mindie Burgoyne and my husband Dan and I would like to invite you to join our tour of Ireland in May of 2015. We’re calling the tour “Places of Resurrection.”

What are Places of Resurrection? This phrase in mentioned in the story of St. Gobnait, a 6th century woman who took refuge in Inis Oirr in the Aran Islands. An angel appeared to Gobnait and told her to go on a journey … to travel until she found nine white deer grazing … it is there that she would find her place of resurrection.

St. Gobnait left Inis Oirr and traveled through Kerry and into Cork. She finally saw those deer in place now named Ballyvourney. and she spent the rest of her life there, and she is still revered and remembered.

A place of resurrection is a place of belonging… a place where one’s spirit is totally at home and not yearning to be somewhere else. These are places where people feel free to create, to wonder, to walk in two worlds. These places of resurrection are thin places - where the veil between this world and the other world is thin.

In May of 2015 we will start our journey right on Inis Oirr where St. Gobnait started hers, and yes we will make our way to Ballyvourney. but we’ll also walk in the steps of St. Brendan, St. Kevin, St. Finbar, St. Enda and many pre-Christian people who marked their places of resurrection in their own way.

You’ll be able to touch the old stones and draw water from the ancient holy wells and connect with your ancestors - feeling some of their energy, sensing some of the ancient memories that lie just beyond the landscape. And during this nine-day tour you’ll make some wonderful friends and meet people who will change your life if only for just a little while.

I believe that every soul who joins us on one of these Thin Places Tours is meant to be there. And I look forward to meeting the guests who will join us this May on our tour to Places of Resurrection.

SET DANCING AT VAUGHAN'S BARN KILFENORA IRELAND

We had been to Vaughan's in Kilfenora for lunch and dinner for many years but had not known about the Ceile-Set dancing till this last trip to Ireland. We spent the night enjoying the music and dance. They have Set Dancing every Thursday night. We were invited by Mary and James McNamara. We have been staying at a house that they rent for the past 6 years. The house is called Doolin Haven and as the name implies, it is located in Doolin, Ireland. If you are interested in peace and relaxation, this is the place for you. The house sits up on a hill overlooking the Cliffs of Moher, the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Isles. Stunning sunsets.... Mary and her daughter are two of the dancers. This event is open to the public and I highly recommend that you put it on your list of things to do in the County Clare area. I think there is a fee charged at the door.

CEILI DANCE
Irish dance is a group of traditional dance forms originating in Ireland which can broadly be divided into social dance and performance dances. Irish social dances can be divided further into céilí and set dancing. Irish set dances are quadrilles, danced by 4 couples arranged in a square, while céilí dances are danced by varied formations (ceili) of couples of 2 to 16 people. In addition to their formation, there are significant stylistic differences between these two forms of social dance. Irish social dance is a living tradition, and variations in particular dances are found across the Irish dance community; in some places, dances are deliberately modified and new dances are choreographed.Set dancing, sometimes called country sets, are a popular form of folk dancing in Ireland.
SET DANCE
Set dances are based on quadrilles. The latter were court dances which were transformed by the Irish into a unique folk dance of the Irish rural communities. Promotion of Céilí dance during the 1930's and 1940s, and the rise of Rock and Roll in the 1950s caused the popularity of set dancing to fade. However, in the 1980s, a revival started and many sets that have not been done for forty years or more are being recovered and danced again.
