Boyanup is a town on the South Western Highway in the South West agricultural region, 195 km south of Perth and 18 km south-east of Bunbury, Western Australia. The town is located on the Preston River. Boyanup is an Noongar Aboriginal name, said to mean a place of quartz as Boya means rock or stone. 1. Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse Augusta
Cape Leeuwin is the most south-westerly mainland point of the Australian continent, in the state of Western Australia. A few small islands and rocks, the St Alouarn Islands, extend further in Flinders Bay to the east of the cape. The nearest settlement, north of the cape, is Augusta. South-east of Cape Leeuwin, the coast of Western Australia goes much further south. Located on headland of the cape is the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and the buildings that were used by the lighthouse keepers. In Australia, the Cape is considered the point where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean; however most other nations and bodies consider the Southern Ocean to only exist south of 60°S.

Dardanup Heritage Park - Western Australia

We had two main destinations to see outside central Bunbury. The first was Dardanup Heritage Park which was one place we have been told over and over again that we should visit.

It isn't far from Bunbury and can be reached via the Outer Ring Road and then south into Moore Road. Watch for the sign as you drive south on Moore Road.

The entry fee wasn't what I would call cheap but I soon came to realise why, when I saw the extent of the exhibits inside.

The park is probably the best single attraction in the area eclipsing even the wonder of Gnomesville. It is by far the best privately operated museum of its type that we have seen anywhere in W.A.

The collection of vehicles, machinery and memorabilia at the Heritage Park is really second to none. I would suggest that you don't go for a short visit because if you really want to enjoy this place, set aside at least two or three hours or even more.

The park opens on Sundays and Wednesdays from 9:30am to 4pm. I think it would be great if it was open more days in the week as I am sure many visitors miss out if they are not in the area during the opening times.

We shot plenty of footage at the park and will be producing a video showing you why you really should take the time to visit.

Most of the vehicles and machinery have been fully restored to working condition and it is great to see some of the vehicles being driven around. There are also live demonstrations of Tangye engines and for those who are interested in military history, the Bunbury RSL has a wonderful military collection housed in the drill hall.

This was my favourite exhibit as I have always had an interest in military equipment and history. The curator, Gerry Tyrrell, is great to talk to. He has a wealth of knowledge about the exhibits and if I had time, I would have loved to stop and chat with him a lot longer.

The drill hall houses a Leopard tank and this is one of the very few in the world that you can actually have a look inside.

If you need a break during your visit to the park, I would recommend a coffee and cake or a lunch break at the café. You will probably need a bit of a rest at some stage as there is just so much to see. I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you are in the area make sure you are there either Sunday or Wednesday. If you aren't in the area, plan a trip and go!

The Town That Is Cow Crazy ( Cowaramup )

Cowaramup is a town in the South West of Western Australia, 12 kilometres north of Margaret River in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River.
The name Cowaramup derives its name from Cowaramup Siding, which was located near the townsite, on the now disused Busselton to Augusta railway. The townsite was gazetted in 1925, originally to support the timber and dairy industries. The name is believed to be derived from Aboriginal word cowara, meaning purple-crowned lorikeet] Locals from the region often refer to the town as Cowtown, a reference to the use of cow in the town's name and its history of dairy farming.

Donnybrook is a nice little town and is known for the Granny Smith Apple. They have some big thing apples around the town as we'll as a really good early saw mill display.

First proper running session of my revised dcc-sound Southern Region layout.

After very little progress in the last year, Christmas brought the incentive to get things moving so that I could start running some of my presents.
From a 4-track main line layout using Peco track, the layout has developed into a secondary line and now uses Scaleway track and Marcway points.
This video concentrates on the station area which has seen most progress over the last month, but the good yard and MPD have swapped places to give more room for the engine sheds and clutter. Video of that will follow later in the year once the station area is completed.
Locos in the film are from Hornby and Bachmann, and all but the M7 have sound supplied by Olivias Trains. This years present from the wife, a class 700 0-6-0 has had a normal chip fitted at the moment, but will be sound-fitted at a later date and will then appear on film.
I hope you enjoy watching the trains running at scale speeds for a station loosely based on the Sussex area of the Southern Region.
