Denham is the administrative town for the Shire of Shark Bay, Western Australia. At the 2006 census, Denham had a population of 607.Located on the western coast of the Peron Peninsula 831 kilometres north of Perth, Denham is the westernmost publicly accessible town in Australia, and is named in honour of Captain Henry Mangles Denham of the Royal Navy, who charted Shark Bay in 1858. Today Denham survives as the gateway for the tourists who come to see the dolphins at Monkey Mia, which is located 23 kilometres northeast of the town. The town also has an attractive beach and a jetty popular with those interested in fishing and boating.

Shell Beach is a beach in the Shark Bay region of Western Australia, located 45 km south-east of Denham. Situated on the northeastern side of the Taillefer Isthmus along the L'Haridon Bight, the beach is covered with shells for a 60 km stretch to a depth of 7–10 m . It is one of only two beaches in the world made entirely from shells.The beach was named because of the great abundance of the shells of the cockle species Fragum erugatum. The seawater in the L'Haridon Bight has a high salinity due to both the geomorphology and local climate of the area. This high salinity has allowed the cockle to proliferate unchecked, since its natural predators have not adapted well to this environment. The shells have formed a limestone that is known as coquina. Monkey Mia is a popular tourist destination located about 900 km north of Perth, Western Australia. The reserve is 25 km northeast of the town of Denham in the Shark Bay Marine Park and World Heritage Site. The main attraction are the bottlenose dolphins that have been coming close to shore for more than fifty years. Rangers from the Department of Parks and Wildlife carefully supervise the Monkey Mia Dolphin Experience.

Dirk Hartog Island is an island off the Gascoyne coast of Western Australia, within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. It is about 80 kilometres long and between 3 and 15 kilometres wide and is Western Australia's largest and most western island. It covers an area of 620 square kilometres and is approximately 850 kilometres north of Perth. It was named after Dirk Hartog, a Dutch sea captain, who first encountered the Western Australian coastline close to the 26th parallel south latitude, which runs through the island. After leaving the island, Hartog continued his voyage north-east along the mainland coast. Hartog gave the Australian mainland one of its earliest known names, as Eendrachtsland, which he named after his ship Eendracht, meaning Unity.

Famous for its absolute water frontage and panoramic ocean views, Denham Seaside Tourist Village is located right on beautiful Shark Bay with its own lovely safe beach. Denham is coming into dugong and turtle season where they swim with people out the front of the park. People stay at the park for 3 - 4 months at a time to escape the cold weather in Perth and migrate here. Tim also talks to guests Pat and Lina who have been coming to the park for eleven years in the wintertime. There are 150 powered sites, 10 unpowered sites and 18 cabins. Part 2 of our travels from Perth to Shark Bay and we kick off at a great free camp just outside of Kalbarri. We roll through Shell Beach and Denham for a look before pulling up for a few days at the beautiful Monkey Mia to see the dolphins.

We rented a campervan in Cairns and set off on a 2 and a half month road trip around Australia. It’s a heck of a long way (20,000 km!!) but these videos will show what we got up to on the road!
