We visited Tyrol and attended The Social Travel Summit as part of a project managed by iambassador in partnership with the Tirol Tourist Board, Austrian Tourism Board and Alpbachtal Seenland.

Today we’re showing you around one of the most picturesque corners in all of Austria: the Alpbachtal Valley located in Tyrol. This was our first time visiting Austria and I don’t think we could have chosen a better place to start. While we only had 3 days in this region, we managed to pack lots of time in the mountains, sample the local cuisine and befriend more than one cow along the way. The following is our mini-travel guide to Alpbachtal:
After getting settled into our farmhouse it was time for lunch and boy were we hungry. We drove to Brandenberg where we ate at Kaiserhaus, a restaurant and guesthouse tucked out in nature.
Tyrolean Food at Kaiserhaus Gasthof - Seeing as this was our first day in Tyrol, we wanted to sample some Tyrolean food including gamey meats and noodle dishes.
Hiking the Kaiserklamm - This was a really nice walk that followed the course of the river and took us over a series of bridges and tunnels. We sure enjoyed the scenery.
After that we returned back to our town of Reith im Alpbachtal, where we had some more hearty Tyrolean food and listened to a bit of live music.
On day 2, we lucked out with clear blue skies, so after having breakfast in our farmhouse, we drove to the town of Alpbach. Here we got quick e-biking lesson, and set off to tackle the Alps in style.
It wasn’t long before we left the town behind and found ourselves in the middle of nature. We rode up valleys, over streams, through forests, and tackled some pretty steep inclines along the way, but as you can see, the scenery was stunning.
We drove to the nearby village of Kramsach, where we stopped off for - you guessed it - more food! We were famished after all that biking, and we didn’t hold back. We plopped ourselves down at Rohrerhof, where we proceeded to order cappuccinos, massive dessert platters and schnapps. The next attraction: the Tyrolean Farmhouse Museum,
Gondola ride to Wiedersbergerhorn - After a leisurely walk and enjoying the impressive views, something else caught our attention - a mountaintop restaurant with an outdoor terrace!
Almatrieb Cows Come Home Parade - By noon, the festivities were in full swing. But it wasn’t all about cows. There were also craft demonstrations, food stalls, and lots of bands playing for jovial crowds who created their own dance floors.
That sums up our trip to the Alpbachtal Valley in Tyrol - cows, mountains and a whole bunch of delicious food. See you next time in Vienna (Wien).

The say that getting there is half the fun and on
Lufthansa, sometimes its all the fun -- at least in first class where their newly redesigned first class seats in the A340-600 are like private rooms and the beds go completely flat and with pillows and duvets are very comfy.
But the Business class seats leave something to be desired - the angle and short foot rest was like trying to sleep on a slide - said one flyer
Flying direct from Los Angeles to Munich is about 6,000 miles and about 12 hours flight time. Munich airport is much less frenetic than Frankfurt or other large European hubs, yet it is easy to connect to most of Europe from this carefree and relaxed airport.
The drive from Munich to Ischgl, Austria is about 2 1/2 hours through the German city of Garmish.
The Trofana Royal hotel in Ischgl is a 5-star hotel with a 3 toques Gaut-Millau restaurant and a wine cellar with 25,000 bottles.
The Ischgl region has 44 cable cars and lifts and 238 pistes as well as extensive off-piste skiing. There are beginner slopes in the Idalp area and more challenger runs towards the Swiss border. There is an 11 kilometer run that goes from the highest ski peak to the town center.
There is also a run known as The Smuggler's Tour that takes one into the Swiss Village of Samnaun. In Switzerland you can find tax free shopping.
At Idalp is the Panorama Restaurant the towering views are only eclipsed by the size of the Austrian wine bottles.
There are sun drenched cafes and stables on the slopes serving up pizza, roast chicken and the traditional Austrian dishes like wiener schnitzel. And Apres Ski parties start early in the afternoon where DJs will keep skiers on their feet dancing to some top dance beats.
And apres ski continues in town where hotels and restaurants fill up with the party crowd. Most skiers come down on the slopes but a few will fly down strapped to a parachute. The town is filled with shopping options from high end designers to local artisans.
At the Trofana Royal winter sports don't end with skiing. There is a indoor swimming pool, outdoor jacuzzi and indoor simulation golf. You don't have to be Bubba Watson to sink a ball but the friendly competition makes the virtual courses exciting. Imagine playing Pebble Beach in the middle of the Tyrolian Alps!
The dazzle continues at the Trofana Royal with the gourmet restaurant. From the overwhelming buffet breakfast to the multi-course fine dining restaurant, it is almost a necessity to ski every day to work off the indulgences.
And if you have any room left over for lunch it is worth a special trip to the Swiss side and the mountain restaurant Salass which serves a special Engadin style fondue that savvy fondue fans claim is the best they've tasted.
Skiing in Ischgl satisfies all the senses... from wide autobahn size piste runs, to off-piste skiing with dramatic mountain scenery and challenging cullours. Great gastronomy, fun, friendly people and true value for the dollar.
