Gangtok is located in the eastern Himalayan range, at an elevation of 1,650 m . The town's population of 100,000 are from different ethnicities such as Nepalis, Lepchas and Bhutia. Nestled within higher peaks of the Himalaya and enjoying a year-round mild temperate climate, Gangtok is at the centre of Sikkim's tourism industry.     Tsomgo Lake, also known as Tsongmo Lake or Changu Lake, is a glacial lake in the East Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim, some 40 kilometres from the capital Gangtok. Located at an elevation of 3,753 m , the lake remains frozen during the winter season. The lake surface reflects different colours with change of seasons and is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Buddhist monks prognosticated after studying the changing colours of the lake.

  • 3. Menmecho Lake Gangtok
    Menmecho Lake is a mountain lake located in East Sikkim district in the state of Sikkim, India. It lies on the way to the Jelepla Pass and is situated at a distance of 20 kilometres ahead of the Lake Tsomgo. It is the source of the river Rangpo chu, a tributary of the Teesta River. The waters of the lake are sourced by melting snow in summer, and the monsoon in the wet season. The lake is noted for its trout, and has a large fish farm nearby with a guesthouse. Menmecho is closed to tourists.
