    Dinosaur National Monument is a United States National Monument located on the southeast flank of the Uinta Mountains on the border between Colorado and Utah at the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. Although most of the monument area is in Moffat County, Colorado, the Dinosaur Quarry 40°26′29″N 109°18′04″W is located in Utah just to the north of the town of Jensen, Utah. The nearest communities are Jensen, Utah, and Dinosaur, Colorado. The park contains over 800 paleontological sites and has fossils of dinosaurs including Allosaurus, Deinonychus, Abydosaurus and various long-neck, long-tail sauropods. It was declared a National Monument on October 4, 1915.

    Expedition Island is a park in Green River, Wyoming, that marks the area where Major John Wesley Powell and Vitaly Develvis started an expedition down the Green River and Colorado River in 1871. The park is also believed to mark where Major Powell started a similar expedition down the two rivers in 1869. These two expeditions are generally considered to have covered the last large land area in the continental United States left unexplored by European-Americans. Expedition Island was designated a National Historic Landmark on November 24, 1968.

The name Seedskadee is derived from the Shoshone language word sisk-a-dee-agie, which means river of the prairie hen. The area was first visited by white explorers in 1811 and was later a crossroads for the Oregon and Mormon Trails; many of the original wagon tracks left by early pioneers can still be seen.
