Northumberland is a county in North East England. The northernmost county of England, it borders Cumbria to the west, County Durham and Tyne and Wear to the south and the Scottish Borders to the north. To the east is the North Sea coastline with a 64-mile-long-distance path. The county town is Alnwick, although the county council is in Morpeth.The county of Northumberland included Newcastle upon Tyne until 1400, when the city became a county of itself.     Farne Lighthouse was built on the Farne Islands in 1811 to the design of Daniel Alexander, it is a cylindrical white tower with lighthouse keepers' cottages to the rear. It was converted to solar powered operation in 1996.The tower is 13 m tall with a range for the white light of 10 nautical miles and the Red 7 nmi .
