The Battle of Philippi formed part of the Western Virginia Campaign of the American Civil War, and was fought in and around Philippi, Virginia on June 3, 1861. A Union victory, it was the first organized land action of the war, though generally viewed as a skirmish rather than a battle. However, the Northern press celebrated it as an epic triumph, and this encouraged Congress to call for the drive on Richmond that ended with the Union defeat at First Bull Run in July. 1. Philippi bridge Philippi
Philippi is a city in — and the county seat of — Barbour County, West Virginia, USA. The population was 2,966 at the 2010 census. In 1861, the city was the site of the Battle of Philippi, known as The Philippi Races. Although a minor skirmish, this is considered the earliest notable land action of the American Civil War. For over a century, Philippi has been home to Alderson Broaddus University, a four-year liberal-arts school affiliated with the American Baptist Churches. The city has a weekly newspaper, The Barbour Democrat.

Fallingwater is a house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935 in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, 43 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The house was built partly over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Mill Run section of Stewart Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, located in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains. The house was designed as a weekend home for the family of Liliane Kaufmann and her husband, Edgar J. Kaufmann, Sr., owner of Kaufmann's Department Store. After its completion, Time called Fallingwater Wright's most beautiful job, and it is listed among Smithsonian's Life List of 28 places to visit before you die. Footage taken during June of 2015 on a weekend trip to Marlinton, WV. Beautiful country and roads. Some moderately challenging twisties and awesome views. Great group of riders making the time even better.
My first foray into GoPro action videography. I thought I was ready!? But this trip taught me a lot about the cameras and their placement on a motorcycle. Not to mention post production and the pluses and minuses of the format. Theres still a lot to learn and I look forward to the next ride.

I had just stopped at this public stream access on a whim today and decided to share. I shot this from the cab of my truck due to the breeze that follows the the stream bed. There is a bridge next to me so you will hear a little highway noise. I was looking for a place to gather flint for a tools video but my area is mostly sandstone and granit.

Philippi Covered Bridge, WV

07.18.09 - The Philippi Covered Bridge, spanning the Tygart River in WV, is the longest two-lane covered bridge still in use on a federal highway. The bridge was seized by union troops and used as a barracks during the first land battle of the Civil War on June 3, 1861. The war's first amputation was performed here. Wonderful history surrounds it. Notice the museum on the other side of bridge. Fantastic display of items and the woman there will tell you stories forever! This is also the location of two mummies from the late 1800s which also have quite a story! When you see bridge from the side down the river, notice how small the pick up truck below it at the water's edge looks in comparison!

Exploring abandoned West Virginia castle!

During my spring break I visited Mount Wood Castle in the hills of wheeling west Virginia.This half finished castle sits overlooking Wheeling West Virginia and the Ohio river. Next to it is the Mount Wood Cemetery and somewhere under them both is the old mount wood train tunnel.(which I sadly could not find) when making this video I knew little of its history and only heard rumors but I recently found an article with its history here:
