Southern Norway is the geographical region along the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway. The region is an informal description since it does not have any governmental function. It roughly corresponds to the old petty kingdom of Agder as well as the two present-day counties of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder. The total combined area of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties is 16,493 square kilometres . Buen kulturhus is a cultural multi-purpose house located in the town of Mandal in Norway. The town is located in the municipality of Mandal in Vest-Agder county in the far southern part of Norway. The building opened in 2012 and includes a library, an art gallery, cinemas, halls adapted for theater, dance, concerts, and other events as well as a culture school. There is also a café and outdoor playground near the building. On the eastern side the roof is covered with turf. The total cost of building Buen kulturhus was 210 million Norwegian kroner and it was designed by the architecture firm Danish 3XN based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Fjære is a former municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. The 60.4-square-kilometre municipality existed from 1846 until 1971. It was located to the north of the town of Grimstad. The name is still used to refer to that area, which is now a part of Grimstad municipality. The administrative centre of Fjære was the village of Vik, just east of the historic Fjære Church. Other villages in Fjære included Fevik, Dømmesmoen, Frivold, Kroken, and Rønnes.

Søgne is a municipality in Vest-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Tangvall. Other villages in Søgne include Ausviga, Eig, Høllen, Langenes, Lohne, Lunde, Ny-Hellesund, Trysnes, Vedderheia, Ålo, and Åros. The 151-square-kilometre municipality is the 354th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Søgne is the 103rd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 11,321. The municipality's population density is 78.6 inhabitants per square kilometre and its population has increased by 16.2% over the last decade.

Saltholmen Lighthouse is a lighthouse that is on a small island off the coast about 2 kilometres southeast of the town of Lillesand in Aust-Agder county, Norway. There has been a lighthouse here since 1882. The island are named Saltholmen . This name comes from the salt extraction industry established by Hans Nielsen Hauge that once was located there. The lighthouse is only accessible by boat and the site is open, but the building is not open to the public.

Trinity Church is a parish church in Arendal municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the town of Arendal. The church is the only church in the Trefoldighet parish which is part of the Arendal prosti in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The Dean of the Arendal prosti is based at this church. The red, brick, cruciform church is a basilica in the neo-Gothic style. The long church has short cross-arms, but seats about 1,200 people.

Tromøy Church is a parish church in Arendal municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Brekka on the east coast of the island of Tromøy. It is one of the two churches for the Tromøy parish which is part of the Arendal prosti in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. This was the main church for the municipality of Tromøy from 1878 until its dissolution in 1992. The white, stone church was built around the year 1150 and over the centuries it was enlarged and expanded. In 1748, the church was converted into a cruciform design by the architect Ole Nielsen Weierholt. The church now seats about 290 people. As a medieval building, it automatically has protected cultural heritage status.

The southernmost part of Norway, Sørlandet (the south land) stretches from the coastal areas with its many rocky islands and skerries via an inland belt with forests, lakes and rivers, to the mountains of Setesdal, a popular hiking and skiing region.

One of many characteristic features of the southern coast is the white string of pearls, the many towns, villages and outposts dotted along the coastline, with their white-painted houses and narrow streets.

Capital of Norway
Oslo, the capital of Norway, sits on the country’s southern coast at the head of the Oslofjord. It’s known for its green spaces and museums. Many of these are on the Bygdøy Peninsula, including the waterside Norwegian Maritime Museum and the Viking Ship Museum, with Viking ships from the 9th century.

The Holmenkollbakken is a ski-jumping hill with panoramic views of the fjord. It also has a ski museum.
