Watkinsville is the largest city and seat of Oconee County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a total population of 2,832. It served as the seat of Clarke County until 1872 when the county seat of that county was moved to Athens, a move which ultimately led to the creation of Oconee County in 1875. It is included in the Athens-Clarke County, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area.

1. Washington Farms Watkinsville
U.S. Route 78 is a 233.3-mile-long U.S. Highway in the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels west to east in the north-central part of the state, starting at the Alabama state line, west of Tallapoosa, where the roadway continues concurrent with the unsigned highway Alabama State Route 4. This is also the western terminus of Georgia State Route 8 , which is concurrent with US 78 to the east. The highway serves the Atlanta, Athens, and Augusta metropolitan areas on its path from the Alabama state line to the South Carolina state line, at the Savannah River, on the northeastern edge of Augusta, where it continues concurrent with US 1/US 25/US 278/SC 121. 2. Consolidated Gold Mine Dahlonega
The Consolidated Mine was a gold mine in Lumpkin County, Georgia, United States, just east of Dahlonega. Like most of the area around Dahlonega, the placer mining on the land on which the mine is located probably started during the Georgia Gold Rush. By 1880, the placer deposits were exhausted and the land was down to hard rock. Gold was soon discovered in a huge quartz vein system, and mined. The richest acre was mined deep into the ground, and the resulting shaft became known as the Glory Hole.” After an interruption of operations at the mine, a group of investors purchased about 7,000 acres of land around the discovery sight and formed the Dahlonega Consolidated Gold Mining Co. in 1895. Milledgeville Great American Main Street Video

Congratulations are in order for Milledgeville, GA on receiving a prestigious 2014 Great American Main Street Award. This nationwide award recognizes Milledgeville as one of the finest downtown areas in America.
On Sunday, May 18 Milledgeville Main Street was named a recipient of the most prominent award given by the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, as a Great American Main Street. Communities that demonstrate exemplary achievement in the process of strengthening their downtowns and commercial districts receive this distinguished award. Milledgeville will join only two other communities in Georgia which serve as models for comprehensive, preservation- based Comerica district revitalization.
