Where And What Was the Hippodrome?
The New-York Historical Society and NYC Media, the official network of the City of New York, have partnered to produce a special series of one minute videos that feature the staff of the New York Historical Society as they answer some of the most captivating questions ever posed to them about the City's fascinating and unique history.
Opened in 1905, the Hipprodrome, on Sixth Avenue between 43rd and 44th streets, was willed as the largest theater in the world, seating 5200 with a stage twelve times larger than any Broadway counterpart. Unfortunately, large crowds were offset by high operating costs and the growing popularity of motion pictures over live performances. The theater was eventually razed in 1939.

From Wikipedia:
Midtown Manhattan is the central portion of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. Midtown is home to some of the city's most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project, the headquarters of the United Nations, Grand Central Terminal, and Rockefeller Center, as well as Broadway and Times Square.
Midtown Manhattan is the largest central business district in the world and ranks among the most expensive pieces of real estate; Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan commands the world's highest retail rents, with average annual rents at US$3,000 per square foot ($32,000/m2) in 2017. However, due to the high price of retail spaces in Midtown, there are also many vacant storefronts in the neighborhood. Midtown is the country's largest commercial, entertainment, and media center, and also a growing financial center.
The majority of New York City's skyscrapers, including its tallest hotels and apartment towers, are in Midtown. The area hosts commuters and residents working in its offices, hotels, and retail establishments, tourists and students. Times Square, the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District, is a major center of the world's entertainment industry. Sixth Avenue also has the headquarters of three of the four major U.S. television networks.
Midtown is part of Manhattan Community District 5. It is patrolled by the 14th and 18th Precincts of the New York City Police Department.

New York Colour Stock Shots (1963)
This footage is shot in colour.
New York, United States of America (USA).
Long shot of the island of Manhattan from approaching boat, back shots of several women onboard the boat in foreground. Various shots of the Statue of Liberty with helicopter flying over. More shots of Manhattan from approaching boat - good shot. Various high angle long shots of the skyscrapers of New York. Various shots of the tourists on top of Empire State Building looking at skyscrapers. Various travelling night shots of the illuminated street of Manhattan - possibly Broadway, many theatres seen. More shots of the illuminations. Various shots of the tourists on boat circling Manhattan, brilliant footage of the skyline, Brooklyn bridge, skyscrapers, etc. More high angle long shots of Manhattan, some top shots, possibly air shots.
There are several confusing shots of Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, taken from boat, at the end of the item - possibly attached to the New York footage accidentally.
Cataloguer's note - good footage - poor grading.

Sailors of Battleship USS Texas (BB 35) Remember D-Day
A public domain video
USS Texas (BB-35), the second ship of the United States Navy named in honor of the US state of Texas, is a New York-class battleship. The ship was launched on 18 May 1912 and commissioned on 12 March 1914.
Soon after her commissioning, Texas saw action in Mexican waters following the Tampico Incident and made numerous sorties into the North Sea during World War I. When the United States formally entered World War II in 1941, Texas escorted war convoys across the Atlantic and later shelled Axis-held beaches for the North African campaign and the Normandy Landings before being transferred to the Pacific Theater late in 1944 to provide naval gunfire support during the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Texas was decommissioned in 1948, having earned a total of five battle stars for service in World War II, and is now a museum ship near Houston, Texas.
Among the world's remaining battleships, Texas is notable for being the only remaining World War I–era dreadnought battleship, though she is not the oldest surviving battleship: Mikasa, a pre-dreadnought battleship ordered in 1898 by the Imperial Japanese Navy and HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, are both older than Texas. She is also noteworthy for being one of only seven remaining ships and the only remaining capital ship to have served in both World Wars.
Among US-built battleships, Texas is notable for her sizeable number of firsts: the first US Navy vessel to house a permanently assigned contingent of US Marines, the first US battleship to mount anti-aircraft guns, the first US ship to control gunfire with directors and range-keepers (analog forerunners of today's computers), the first US battleship to launch an aircraft, ] from a platform on Turret 2, one of the first to receive the CXAM-1 version of CXAM production radar in the US Navy, the first US battleship to become a permanent museum ship, and the first battleship declared to be a US National Historic Landmark.

U.N. Recognizes Palestine as State; U.S. & Israel Set To Ignore U.N.
TEXT (scroll down for links)
At the time of this taping, it appears that The Palestinians are certain to win U.N. recognition as a state and as the Guardian's Ian Black commented, No one involved in the frenetic diplomacy surrounding Thursday's decision can be unaware that it was on that day in 1947 that the fledgling world body voted to partition the Holy Land into Jewish and Arab states. The timing was deliberately chosen by Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, because of that echo.
Perhaps both sides can stop treating the old testament as if it were a real estate deed and move towards a lastly and peaceful co-habitation in a land granted special status in a book of laws written by the all knowing creator of the universe. Of coarse stating the fact that this holy book of laws could have just as likely have been written by a flying tea cup filled with spam (go ahead, prove me wrong) is among the many good reasons why I will not be plucked from my dark cave to chair any peace talks anytime soon. Not that serious peace talks will emerge from the UN recognition of Palestine as a state. As the AP reports it success could come with a high price: Israel and the United States warn it could delay hopes of achieving an independent Palestinian state through peace talks with Israel and could incite regional unrest. And also, the US and Israel ignore the decisions of the UN that present obstacles to their imperial lust.
Here is a thought: regional unrest is a result of the illegal Israeli occupations and settlements. Regional unrest is made possible by the disproportionate wars waged by Israel who rain death and destruction down on Palestinians with made in the USA weapons. Regional unrest increases every day the 1.6 million residents of Gaza live in conditions befitting an internment camp. Regional rest would come with a two state solution and a return to 1967 borders and yes -- it also requires that Hamas stop saying and acting upon ridiculous sentiments like Israel must be wiped off the map. Come on guys- this eye for an eye game is not only medieval -- intellectually speaking, but it is a game you loose. Like Mathew Broderick taught the defcon computer in the movie wars games by challenging it to play tic tac toe against itself, the only winning move here is not to play the game.
And that is you Mideast peace process Zen koan of the day. You're welcome.
