Wagner's Ring presents the ultimate challenge for any opera company, and the New York Metropolitan Opera's new production of Der Ring des Nibelungen, unveiled between 2010 and 2012 and starring some of the greatest Wagnerian singers of today, is among the most ambitious Ring stagings ever mounted.
Already seen by over a million people in the theatre and at cinemas around the globe, the Met Ring was filmed live in high definition and is now being released on both DVD and Blu-ray to launch Deutsche Grammophon's celebration of the composer's bicentenary year in 2013.
With Bryn Terfel, widely acknowledged as one of the finest bass-baritones of our age, performing his first complete cycles as the embattled god Wotan and American soprano Deborah Voigt making her role debut as his disobedient warrior-daughter Brünnhilde, alongside international stars Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Maria Westbroek as the incestuous Siegmund and Sieglinde, and last-minute stand-in Jay Hunter Morris -- a thrilling new tenor from Paris, Texas -- saving the day as the fearless but ill-fated hero Siegfried, the New York Times declared the cast as strong a lineup of vocal artists for a Wagner opera as I have heard in years.
To complement the complete Ring cycle on both DVD and Blu-ray, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing two related titles: Twilight of the Gods, a 2-CD compilation of audio highlights from the Met Ring -- featuring all the major stars of the production and such famous extracts as The Ride of the Valkyries, Wotan's Farewell, the Magic Fire Music, Siegfried's Rhine Journey and the concluding Immolation Scene -- and Wagner's Dream, a frank and revealing documentary about the five-year making of the Met's new Ring that has already been acclaimed as simply the best documentary about the Met ever made (Film Journal), a must-see for any creative soul (Cinespect) and destined to be one of the classic documentaries about opera (Philadelphia Inquirer).

Peter Gelb, the Met’s General Manager, tells Jim Zirin of his new documentary The Opera House, and says that the move from the old opera house wasn’t seamless, but the happy ending made it all worthwhile.

【New York】
The City of New York, usually referred to as either New York City (NYC) or simply New York (NY), is the most populous city in the United States. With an estimated 2018 population of 8,398,748 distributed over a land area of about 302.6 square miles (784 km2), New York is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, the largest metropolitan area in the world by urban landmass and one of the world's most populous megacities, with an estimated 19,979,477 people in its 2018 Metropolitan Statistical Area and 22,679,948 residents in its Combined Statistical Area. A global power city, New York City has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and exerts a significant impact upon commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, art, fashion, and sports. The city's fast pace has inspired the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy.
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of the State of New York. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York City is home to 3.2 million residents born outside the United States, the largest foreign born population of any city in the world as of 2016. As of 2019, the New York metropolitan area is estimated to produce a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of US$1.9 trillion. If greater New York City were a sovereign state, it would have the 12th highest GDP in the world. New York is home to the highest number of billionaires of any city in the world.
New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded by colonists from the Dutch Republic in 1624 on Lower Manhattan; the post was named New Amsterdam in 1626. The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664 and were renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. New York was the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790, and has been the largest US city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the U.S. by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is an international symbol of the U.S. and its ideals of liberty and peace. In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity and entrepreneurship, social tolerance, and environmental sustainability, and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity. In 2019, New York was voted the greatest city in the world per a survey of over 30,000 people from 48 cities worldwide, citing its cultural diversity.

Times Square New York City
New York is the most populous city in the United States, and the center of the New York metropolitan area, which is one of the most populous urban areas in the world. A leading global city, New York exerts a powerful influence over global commerce, finance, media, culture, art, fashion, research, and entertainment. As host of the United Nations Headquarters, it is also an important center for international affairs. The city is often referred to as New York City or The City of New York to distinguish it from the state of New York, of which it is a part.
Located on a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States, the city consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. The city's 2008 estimated population exceeds 8.3 million people,[2] and with a land area of 305 square miles (790 km2),[3][4] New York City is the most densely populated major city in the United States.[5] The New York metropolitan area's population is also the nation's largest, estimated at 19.1 million people over 6,720 square miles (17,400 km2). Furthermore, the Combined Statistical Area containing the Greater New York metropolitan area contained 22.232 million people as of 2009 Census estimates, also the largest in the United States.
New York was founded as a commercial trading post by the Dutch in 1624. The settlement was called New Amsterdam until 1664 when the colony came under English control.[6] New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790.[7] It has been the country's largest city since 1790.[8]
Many districts and landmarks in the city have become well known to outsiders. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Times Square, iconified as The Crossroads of the World, is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway theater district and is one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections. Wall Street, in Lower Manhattan, has been a premier global financial center since World War II and is home to the New York Stock Exchange, the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies. Manhattan's architectural skyline is universally recognized, and the city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and the twin towers of the former World Trade Center. The original Chinatown in Lower Manhattan is one of the most prominent ethnic Chinese enclaves outside of Asia and draws throngs of tourists to its bustling sidewalks, restaurants, and discount retail establishments.
Mass transit in New York City, most of which runs 24 hours a day, is the most complex and extensive in North America. Approximately one third of mass transit ridership and two thirds of rail ridership in the United States originates from within the New York metropolitan area. The iconic New York City Subway system is the busiest in the Western Hemisphere, while Grand Central Terminal, also popularly referred to as Grand Central Station, is the world's largest railway station by number of platforms. New York's airspace is one of the world's busiest air transportation corridors. The George Washington Bridge is the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge.[9]
New York City is famous for its ethnic diversity and population density. In 2005, nearly 170 languages were spoken in the city, and 36% of its population was born outside the United States;[10][11] the New York region continues to be the largest metropolitan gateway for legal immigrants to the United States.[12]
New York City carries an important role as a center of culture. The city prominently excels in its spheres of art, cuisine, dance, music, opera, theater, independent film, fashion, museums, and literature. The New York Times has won more Pulitzer Prizes for journalism than any other news publication. The city is the birthplace of many cultural movements, including the Harlem Renaissance in literature and visual art; abstract expressionism (also known as the New York School) in painting; and hip hop,[13] punk,[14] salsa, disco, freestyle, and Tin Pan Alley in music. New York is also widely celebrated in popular lore, featured frequently as the setting for books, movies, and television programs.

Original Lyrics:
And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets I've had a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes there were times I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
{ From: }
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way
For what is a man what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
Yes it was my way

Christmas and New Years in New York City
Travel video vlog about our trip to New York City during Christmas and New Year’s Eve in 2019.
The City of New York, often called New York City (NYC) or simply New York (NY), is the most populous city in the United States and it is located at the southern tip of the state of New York on the East coast of the United States.
We arrived in New York City on 25 December 2018, and stayed until 01 January 2019 in the neighborhood of Manhattan. New York is such a big city with so many things to do and things to see that we had no set plan for our trip, we did things and went sightseeing at our own leisure. I have to admit that probably was not the best decision we made since the city was extremely crowded due to the holidays. Despite knowing that New York would be busy during Xmas, we were overwhelmed by the crowds, there were a lot more than we were expecting in the city, especially in areas like Times Square and Rockefeller Centre. Lines to go on top to the Empire state building for example, were about 3 hours long. The way we found to beat the crowds was to pay the premium price for most attractions, which often allowed you to “skin the line” and sometimes included other things such as beverages during our visit. If you are planning a Trip to New York around this time of the year, I suggest being mindful of crowds and planning things ahead to make sure you get the most of your trip.
For the entire week that we were in NYC, it did not snow, so unfortunately we did not have a white Xmas or New Years eve on this trip.
Here are the places we visited while in New York:
1. Times Square (0:09) – definitely one of the most crowded tourist destinations in the city., knwn for its broadway theatres and big advertisement billboards displayed on buildings.
2. Reckefeller Center (0:18) – a historic landmark for dining and shopping in Midtown Manhattan. It is a popular touristic attraction during Xmas due to its Big Christmas tree.
3. The Toy store (Fao Schwarz – 0:25) located also on Rockefeller Centre is an attraction of its own, especially during this time of the year, with families lining up for 3 blocks just to get in and see the toys.
4. Bryant park with ice skating (0:36)
5. Empire state building (00:39) – is a great place to visit because it offers panoramic 360 views of the city
6. Macys Christmas display (1:02) – Macys is also a great place to shop in New York, if you are willing to beat the crowds.
7. The charging bull in lower Manhattan (1:19) which is a symbol of the American stock market
8. The state Island ferry (1:21) – this is a must do while in New York City because its free and it provides you with views of the statue of liberty.
9. Central Park (1:27) – which is of the most famous parks in the world and a great place to relax and sightseeing. It also has a famous ice skating
10. Williamsburg (2:12) a lovely area near Brooklyn which was surprisingly free of tourists, amazing sunset by the car without anyone around.
11. Metropolitan Opera House (2:18)
12. Times Square by night (2:31)
13. NYC Grand Centre Terminal Station (2:39)
14. The world trade center complex (03:04)
15. A memorial called Reflecting Absence (03:08 - honors the victims of the September 11 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing
16. Top of the One world tower (03:24) - also offers panoramic views of the city.
