Driving Downtown - NYC Theaters 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Streets - 42nd Street - New York City NY USA - Episode 18.
Starting Point: 42nd Street & 11th Avenue - .
42nd Street is a major crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, known for its theaters, especially near the intersection with Broadway at Times Square. It is also the name of the region of the theater district (and, at times, the red-light district) near that intersection. The street has held a special place in New Yorkers' imaginations since at least the turn of the 20th century, and is the site of some of New York's best known buildings, including (east to west) the United Nations, Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
20th century
From the late 1950s until the late 1980s, 42nd Street, nicknamed The Deuce, was the cultural center of American grindhouse theaters, which spawned an entire subculture. The book Sleazoid Express, a travelogue of the 42nd Street grindhouses and the films they showed, describes in detail the unique blend of people who made up the theater-goers,
For much of the mid and late 20th century, the area of 42nd Street near Times Square was home to activities often considered unsavory,[10] including peep shows. A comedian once said, They call it 42nd Street because you're not safe if you spend more than forty seconds on it.[citation needed]
Revitalization
In the early 1990s, city government encouraged a clean-up of the Times Square area. In 1990, the city government took over six of the historic theatres on the block of 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and New 42nd Street, a not-for-profit organization, was formed to oversee their renovation and reuse, as well as to construct new theatres and a rehearsal space.
In 1993, the Walt Disney Corporation bought the New Amsterdam Theatre, which it renovated a few years later. It is now the flagship for Disney's theatrical productions in New York.
Since the mid-1990s, the block has again become home to legitimate theatres and several multi-screen mainstream movie theatres, along with shops, restaurants, hotels, and attractions such as Madame Tussauds wax museum and Ripley's Believe It Or Not that draw millions to the city every year. This area is now co-signed as New 42nd Street to signify this change.

The mission of the Erasing Borders: Festival of Indian Dance is to present Indian dance through its multiplicity of forms and expressions. We wish to engage artists and audiences in exploring a range of aesthetics, issues and perspectives, as we celebrate the rich tradition of Indian dance and nurture exciting new dimensions developing in Indian, American and global contexts. The festival brings together dancers sharing movement, heritage and inspiration from the Indian subcontinent. It features artists from India and the South Asian Diaspora and the presentations range from traditional classical repertoire to contemporary, modern and post-modern works that are inspired by India or an Indian dance vocabulary.
♡ Our dancers will wow the crowds, and give New York audiences an amazing spectacle of Indian dance in all its beautiful nuances. The dancers weave stories into their dances, narrating myths and legends of India into their movements and gestures…..while the various genres of classical, folk and modern dance ensure every audience demographic has something to applaud.

New York City is an international metropolis, which welcomes around 50 million tourists annually.
In Manhattan's Midtown are some of New York City's most iconic symbols; structures like the Empire State Building, the Rockefeller Center, and the Grand Central Terminal.
Times Square and Broadway provide New York City with near-endless theater and entertainment choices. Fifth Avenue is one of the world's best shopping districts.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim are just two examples of New York City's cultural collection. Central Park is the city's green lung, where New Yorkers come to exercise and relax.
The Reflecting Absence memorial and museum honors the 3000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Little Italy packs the tastes and flavors of Italy into a couple of streets, while Soho attracts well-heeled bohemians. Greenwich Village has cafés and bars where the likes of Bob Dylan first performed. Brooklyn and Coney Island are two distinct districts easily reachable from Manhattan
New York - Brooklyn (Part.2)
Brooklyn has played a major role in various aspects of American culture including literature, cinema and theater. It has the world-renowned Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the second largest public art collection in the United States, housed in the Brooklyn Museum.
Two films of Spike Lee, She's Gotta Have It and Do The Right Thing were shot in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Museum, opened in 1897, is the nation's second-largest public art museum. It has in its permanent collection more than 1.5 million objects, from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art. The Brooklyn Children's Museum, the world's first museum dedicated to children, opened in December 1899. The only such New York State institution accredited by the American Association of Museums, it is one of the few globally to have a permanent collection -- over 30,000 cultural objects and natural history specimens.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) includes a 2,109-seat opera house, a 874-seat theater, and the art house BAM Rose Cinemas. Bargemusic and St. Ann's Warehouse are located on the other side of Downtown Brooklyn in the DUMBO arts district. Brooklyn Technical High School has the second-largest auditorium in New York City (after Radio City Music Hall), with a seating capacity of over 3,000.
